What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

Very good campsite. across from camp host who never said one word to us for 4 days. In fact, the day we were backing our camper into the site we received no help from host. My wife is disabled FYI. Also, at the dump station I was trying to get water from hydrant. The hose connection needed a plug on the outlet. I asked a worker who was mowing. His answer was "use another one" while walking away, He did not understand the problem. And didn't want to know. Eventually I moved the camper and used the hose that has no connection like a garden hose which was needed to fill my water supply. On a positive note, Ranger Noha was very helpful with this problem. In fact, this is the second time Ranger Noha has assisted me when the computer was down at the ranger station a few weeks ago. This is a very good campground. I have been camping here for 60 plus years. Bathrooms clean, grass cut , no trash a Ten. Social skills on some a zero.

The campground and river that runs through it was beautiful and kept the kids busy between hikes and other excursions. Short drive to Clingman's Dome and also nice to have a short drive to Cherokee for supplies. We spent a day in Bryson City taking the steam engine up the mountain and white water rafting down and recommend that for sure!

As always the staff at Smokemont were stellar, they are so helpful and professional, they really do make the experience at Smokemont a outstanding experience, cannot recommend Smokemont campground high enough to truly reflect how much fun you can have there, so if you get the opportunity to go and visit, do it, you will have a great time !

Close to the bathroom and bear proof trash can ,but not “too” close. Tent pad is raised so doesn’t hold water like some of the other spots. Only draw back to this spot is it’s right on the roadway near the beginning of the park so everyone has to drive past .. so dogs or little ones it’s an added concern.

This spot is great for shade trees. For rainy times it’s NOT great because of “gravity” lol all of the water runs right down into the tent pad bc it’s not raised in the front only the back. Otherwise a nice spot.
