What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

We enjoyed camping next to the water. The sound helped us sleep!

There is no sign post at back country Campsite #50; the side trail is small and hard to see from the main trail.

It was awesome. Park staff was great and the grounds and facilities were all clean. Can’t wait to come back.

The fact there is no internet or cell service and no power, make this a perfect getaway. For a week we were disconnected from social media and the woes of the world. We walked, read, talked to fellow campers and listen to the soothing flow of the creek water against the rocks.

Very nice camp ground. We were just disappointed that we couldn’t ride our non motorized bicycles on the wide trail out of camp. It is used for horse rides and hiking only.

Smokemont is a beautiful campground, close to all the amenities of Cherokee, North Carolina. There is normally good fishing on the river, but with all the rain the previous Monday it was not all that good. I had a wonderful time, and the staff and campground host or wonderful.

Loved the area, the dark skies and quiet night.

Very spacious, and a lot less crowded and much quieter than Gatlingburg/ pigeon fork campgrounds where we stayed. River bank sites are very shaded while the sites in the loop middle have open space ( suitable for Starlink) . Wading in the river is fun and sitting at the bank is relaxing. Super close to mingos fall, horseback riding, mountain farm museum and visitor center (where we saw more than 20 elks at dusk)

Campground was in a great area. Bathrooms were not very clean but usable. Biggest problem with this campground is the management. They don't seem to want to enforce existing rules so they makeup rules on the fly, post signs about the new rule then go spend the entire day huddled in the office gossiping.
