What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

Only downfall no showers. We were directed to the KOA in Gatlinburg by park associate, who said they will allow campers to use their showers, when we inquired at the KOA we were told we were not allowed. We ended up at the community center, paid $8 each for a shower.

The Good: Great location for the hike we wanted to do and direct access to nearby trails for morning walks. Campground is basically a big open forested area with lovely partial shade. Bathrooms and grounds were clean.
The Bad: Campsites are packed in tightly so be warned there is no privacy and neighbors are just a few feet from you. Wednesday wasn't crowded and the evening was quiet. However, thursday was PACKED with loud families, screaming kids, and dogs rolling in late. People were up chatting loudly till midnight which made sleeping in our tent impossible due to the campsites being so close. Bring earplugs. Also there's no soap in the bathrooms which feels like it should be a basic safety requirement to prevent spread of disease in the campground.

What was intended to be a wonderful weekend with my wife that has Parkinson and my two grandkids that has lost their mother(our daughter Anna) turned out to be the worse outing at Smokemount since I have camped in 65 plus years. Beginning with the reservation itself. After trying several times using the phone with no success we decided to drive from our residence in Clyde to ranger station at Smokemont. We make reservations for three days . Two of the three days were in the same spot and one in a different spot. No problem until a camper told me he would be camping only one day instead of two. When I went to ranger station to make the necessary changes from his name to my name I was told all would be taken care of. WRONG. The next day I was called by the camp camper host that I would have to move my camper others had reservations for that spot. Later I was met by the ranger at my camp site. Without going through other details. This could have been avoided by trained personnel . And camp hosts that go beyond being helpful to park ranger's that are law enforcement. I have talked to other campers that have dealt with hosts. Others have stated to me that they are unwilling to help those backing into a spot of elderly campers but rather stay in their recliner and laugh at those having a difficult time backing. I returned home with my camper to avoid further drama and sent a certified letter to the great Smoky Mountains Superintendent Cassisis Cash . If anyone had experienced similar circumstances please share with the Superintendent.

A quiet, safe, and spacious campground with plenty of shade next to a gentle bubbling creek. Campground is clean and well managed. Segregation between those that use generators (8a-8p) and those who don’t. No internet at our site D18 even with a cellular booster; internet service starts at campground entrance.

I needed a weekend getaway. Smokemont was beautiful. I got to see Elk twice, they are huge and gorgeous. CLINGMANS DOME is beautiful, however I was extremely winded take your time. Anywhere you drive in the park is beautiful.

We loved the campground and would definitely come back. We also went riding at the stables and had a marvelous time. The horses are well cared for.

Beautiful setting, close to a sparkling, clear mountain stream. My second trip staying at Smokemont in three seasons.

I tried giving it a 5 star but it wouldn't let me. Excellent camping, ranger help and overall a wonderful time.
