What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

Such a great campground! Clean bathrooms and very well maintained grounds. This was our second time staying here and I hope to come back again.

Being off season (mid-Sept), the C section where I stayed was not busy. Bathroom was clean and well stocked with toilet tissue. One water faucet-drinking fountain near my campsite didn't work, but the one on the other side did. The tent pads here are crushed gravel, making the tent floor a little spiky in places even with a tarp under my tent. Campers obeyed the quiet hours and all were polite. Campsite office helped me to extend my stay by 1 day and were very friendly and helpful. Main wildlife in the campground were crows who made sure to visit picnic tables when campers were not around. Horse stables next to Smokemont sell ice and wood and a few other camping supplies. Nice people there also. The town of Cherokee nearby has anything you could want, though I only visited the Food Lion grocery for food supplies.

We stayed for 4 nights in the F section of Smokemont in our travel trailer. This is our 3rd time here. First time in a trailer. There are no hookups so you have to Boondock but the campground is very clean and very quiet. We brought 2 generators along so we could charge up during the daylight hours. No generators from 8p-8a. There is a water and dump station on site.
A beautiful river runs through the campground and trails are available on site. Smokemont is close to some very popular trails within the park. We did Charlies Bunion for an 8mi hike. Awesome hike! Cherokee,NC is only 6mi away so very convenient for groceries, gas, etc.
We will come back again and again to Smokemont! Highly recommend.

We spent 10 nights on multiple sites. Our last site was 18 and that's when the rating went from excellent to just good. The people in 16 would leave for the day and come back at 3/4 and start this generator that was so loud we had to visit other sites for a fire or stay in the camper. They ran this generation until 8pm. You could hear it all the way across the F Bridge. One more thing, I walked my dog 4 to 5 times a day, No soap in any restrooms. Police the generators and put soap in the restrooms.

My only reason for only giving SmokeMont 4 stars instead of 5 stars is that there are no shower facilities at the campground. The sites were clean and easily accessed. The lady that checked me in was so very pleasant and helpful. Awesome! I checked in on 9/12. Overall a very nice experience. Yes I would do it again.

34' Super C motorhome. Stayed in the F loop F35 which got a lot of sun and had decent Starlink access. Beautiful campground. Did the one hour horse ride which was well worth the time and money. Burgers in Cherokee. Really neat area and nice campground. A lot of the perimeter sites in F loop are under trees and along the creek/river. We wanted some sun for solar and F35 may be the prime solar spot. But would get hot in the summer with no shade.

The hand dryer never worked the whole time I was there and there was no soap in the soap dispenser until a few days later the dispenser was completely removed and never reappeared
