What Guests Are Saying
Hawthorn Bluff offers a peaceful camping experience with beautiful lake views, well-maintained trails, and clean facilities, making it a popular choice for families and groups. While some RV sites are not level and certain amenities like hot water and flushing toilets experienced issues, the friendly staff and clean environment contribute positively to visitors' experiences. Overall, guests appreciate the campground's serene atmosphere and accessibility to nearby attractions, despite occasional maintenance concerns.

First time to camp at this location. Very disappointed that the camp ground doesnβt have water hookupβs at each site and that all campers must use tank water from the RV. There are only nine spigots for the entire camp ground. You are allowed to use them to fill your tank, but then must disconnect from the spigot even if itβs located on your camping spot. The Corps of Engineering needs to invest some serious money into the camp ground for better roads, improved spots with wider level parking spots, water sources for each spot, tree removal and trimming and 50 amp electrical hookupβs. Also future planning should include boat slips in the cove to tie up your boat due to the shear rock bluff. As a boating camper I would gladly pay for boat slip rental.

Love everything about Ampang here except the allowing of noncommercial driving in and taking over the fishing dock. No rules being enforced is making it worse so they keep coming and telling others how easy it is. For a guy like me that loves to fish it's a hindrance especially when they have attitudes. May be some fights one of these days because I'm not the only one that feels this way.

We have never camped where they lock a gate at 10pm. No one gets in period. We traveled from Arizona to see our grandkids. We were forced to spend 2 nights in a hotel as we could not make the 10pm curfew. We would never had stayed at Hawthorne if we knew about this as it was not only inconvenient but cost us more money for the hotel.

Only complaint is most spots a very unlevel. Fishing dock is nice. If you scout out ahead of time where the water spigots are it makes it easier since itβs shared water. Hosts are very nice.
