We love the Pine Valley Recreation Area and you will too if your reservation matches the campground rules on arrival.
We had a party of 6 (Dean Gardener D09, maximum occupants 8) reserved through the rec.gov website. AFTER setting up our 4 tents the camp hosts said we had too many tents. No where on the rec.gov website specify how many tents are allowed on site. The MALE camp host wouldn't level with us. We asked how to make this right and he said you can't stay here with that many tents. It was too late in the evening to even try and look for another campground, let alone two spots, in a place that required reservations or even first come first serve sites. So we packed up our gear and left.
House rules govern here and they will be RUDE if not followed.
To make this right, the reservation system should state the latest revision of the campground rules. In this day and age of technology it should be easy to do that. If the campgrounds use a reservation system why can't the campground rules be stated on that system? This was a very disappointing experience. Thanks for letting us down rec.gov and Pine Valley Recreation Area.

The picnic areas and bathrooms are always so clean, every time we visit! There's something magical about getting bored and rowdy kids out of the house and up in the mountains! Everyone is happy all day long!

The crews is always there if you need some help. Very clean. Could do without the cows.

Perfect place to enjoy the mountains and the creek! My kids had the best time playing in the water that feeds into the reservoir. Can't wait to come back.

We moved from WI to UT in March. We have been to Pine Valley nearly every weekend since we moved here because the temps are a good 20* cooler, on any given day, than where we live. We love the mountain views and the serenity of the area! We have been in the Crackfoot Campground (walk up sites 22 or 23) the last 4 weekends. 23 is the best - it is very secluded from the other sites. The Equestrian Trail does run right by it but we have hardly seen anyone go by (although we use it ourselves every time). The only "complaint" we would have is the free range cattle. They can be a bit invasive but do go away when "shoo'd". They did make a mess of site 20 a couple weekends ago when the campers weren't there. So be sure to put your food away when you aren't around. We have seen a ton of deer from both sites. There are coyotes that howl fairly close by at night but we have not had any issues with them. As far as the 5 walk up sites, #20 would be the only one we wouldn't select for ourselves. It is hardly away from the drive up sites at all. All five are within reasonable walking distance from the bathroom and water pump. Note that it is a bit of a hill to get to site 23 but manageable.

We did not stay as scheduled, we where not made aware that the fire and trail restrictions had been lifted.
We do plan to visit in the future.

The park itself is very nice our only recommendation would be to get water at the check in station if you have a trailer. Although water is available in the park there are no faucets that you can connect a hose to

The crackpot campground in pinevalley Utah campground is suppose to have about half of the sites first come first serve, you can not reserve them on the gov. site.
However when you actually arrive at the campground expecting to find an open site they will have reserved signs on them. Most of them are apparently saved, or reserved for out of state campers, Nevada and california.
I spoke to one of the caretakers he said he was"just doing what he was told".

Minimal shade; odor from nearby pit toilet was annoying
