Cougar Rock Campground offers spacious, clean sites with good privacy and easy access to Mount Rainier trails, making it an ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts. The bathrooms are well-maintained, although some reviewers noted a lack of warm water and soap. Challenges include difficult campsite reservations and occasional issues with nearby campers, but the overall experience is positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

The camp ground is run by the Mount Rainer National Park ranger and the campsite site fee is collected by the ranger at the entrance to the campsite. It's a first come first serve campsite, but they never advice you that you can book one night at a time and extend the stay the next morning. And they never advice me that if you book more than one day the first day, it not refundable if next morning you decided not to stay the 2nd night. There isn't any policy regarding to booking anywhere at the campsite ranger station. Also they advice you if you have military pass, senior pass or access pass which give you 50% discount for the campsite. They just charge you the regular campsite fee regardless.

Stayed here for two nights in September at E loop. Great campground had a nice view of Mt Rainier in the morning. It’s a first come first serve but it fills out quickly. Best to stop at the ranger booth before you drive in to find a spot chances are it might have been reserved prior. I will camp here again.

Rolling in just before dark and never having been at the campground before the rangers on duty were informative, welcoming, and extremely kind. The campground's tree density really cut down on the sound of families more than I'd expected, which was great! As an overnight before heading up some of the Paradise hikes first thing in the morning I know I'll be back.

Nice campground, good price. Wish they'd fix dump, or at least fresh water. Come on now!

Friendly and helpful staff. Check in process was a relative breeze. Campground is quiet, with plenty of good size pitches. All the basic facilities you need for camping are provided. Location is ideal for exploring the south side of Mt Rainier. Recommended.

We spent 3 nights in 3rd week of September mid week. Beautiful weather! Wonderful park service staff finding us a spot we would fit in. Check in at the check in station (the sign directs you to do so) and they will help you out so you aren’t driving around to find a spot that works. They know what you will fit into! Great place to camp. Just a few miles to Paradise. And Longmeyer is right down the road. Great mid point to camp and then to explore the park during the daytime. Absolutely gorgeous park and a wonderful camp area!

Ranger was courteous and helpful. Sites were well kept and the price is reasonable. Bathrooms had flush toilets and warm water in the sinks, and there was a place to wash cookware and dishes. Wonderful view of Mt. Rainier. BUT. Bring big your own firewood. Purchasing firewood at Longmire is not a good idea!!

We're into the first come, first served season, with closed loops. I knew from the website that A and B loops were open, but I didn't know that E loop was open -- or that E loop is no-generator. I detest generators, so it would have been useful to know this ahead of time. I didn't find it out until after I had chosen a site in A loop.
