What Guests Are Saying
Cougar Rock Campground offers spacious, clean sites with good privacy and easy access to Mount Rainier trails, making it an ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts. The bathrooms are well-maintained, although some reviewers noted a lack of warm water and soap. Challenges include difficult campsite reservations and occasional issues with nearby campers, but the overall experience is positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

Lots of trees, shade, greenspace and no mosquitoes, blackflies or other bitey things. Nice and quiet, good recycling, picnic table and firepit in top condition - the only limitation is no showers... had to go for a swim in Bench lake instead :)

We arrived at about noon on a Monday in late August and were able to get a campsite. The ranger at the check in was able to match our site to the type of tent we were camping in. We had an excellent site and were very pleased with our stay.

Campsites very open and close together - ours was very close to the road. Great location for Mt. Rainier/Longmire activities and hiking.

Great experience. Just watch out for falling pine cones hitting your tent, car etc. squirrels pick them whenever they want. My windshield got a couple of small chips from squirrels picking pine cones at 6am! It sucks but I can't be mad at that, it's their home and how they eat. Just warning others to try not to park close the trees.

The only negative I have to say is the lack of firewood for sale at the campsite. While other campgrounds within the park either have bundles available for sale or a truck that makes rounds and sells bundles, campers at CR can only look at the bundles reserved for Rainier Guest Services, or else be directed to Ashford, outside the park to get some. It would be great if fire wood was available for campers here - it would keep them from scavenging the various branches from nearby trees.

Very near to Mt. Rainier, enjoyed the evening ranger talk at the campground amphitheater.
