What Guests Are Saying
Cougar Rock Campground offers spacious, clean sites with good privacy and easy access to Mount Rainier trails, making it an ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts. The bathrooms are well-maintained, although some reviewers noted a lack of warm water and soap. Challenges include difficult campsite reservations and occasional issues with nearby campers, but the overall experience is positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

Rangers we’re great, Rainer is great. The site A8 is incredibly noisy 27/7 as it backs to the main road. The site was the dustiest I’ve ever been in. It was like they were emptying the fire pits by spreading ash throughout the site. The restrooms were very clean.

My husband and I had the best weekend getaway at Rainier! This campground is a prime location, and we hope to make this an annual summer tradition.✨

Love this camp ground. The amenities are very nice (clean bathrooms, potable water, big garbage bins that don’t overflow), friendly rangers. But the best part is this campground is the ranger program. I am a 39 year old woman who only recently got into nature-y things. But I am just as excited as any kid to listen to the ranger teaching us about the glaciers. Thank you for this great campground and thank you to the park rangers that work hard to maintain this place!

You can see Mt.Rainier from the campsite. It is located inside the entrance, so you don’t need to be in line the gate.

We had an awesome site and it was a very peaceful campground. It was very smoky since the canopy holds the campfire smoke in but then again you get to have a campfire!

The campground was outstanding! The sites were clean and private, and had everything we needed. My husband and I were camping with four of our 8-10 year old grandchildren and enjoyed our time immensely. The bathrooms were clean and close to each campsite.
There were two reasons I didn't give this a 5-star rating. 1. The woman who registered us talked about her college degree, her experiences in college, and her work history with the man who was registering in front of us. She talked incessantly while we stood in line and our children waited in the car. 2. The amphitheater was scheduled to have a talk about nocturnal animals. We talked with the kids and pumped them up for the ranger. Unfortunately, the talk was about the solar system and well over the heads of our kids. Other than those two things, it was a 5 star experience.

Lovely experience at Cougar Rock for our first time there. We particularly love the ranger programs and our kids (7 and 9) liked the amphitheater... they put on their own play and invited everyone to come see it :) . The bathroom path in loop B inexplicably runs right through another campsite (literally the middle of their driveway), which was a little awkward. Overall there isn't a lot of privacy between campsites but it was more "line of sight" other people rather than "everyone is on top of us," and that's what we expected to find at a popular campground. We enjoyed a four-night stay with hiking nearby and easy access to Paradise.
