What Guests Are Saying
La Wis Wis Campground offers a beautiful setting with spacious, private sites, great access to hiking trails, and the nearby Ohanapecosh River, making it ideal for nature lovers. While some guests noted issues with maintenance, lack of potable water, and crowded conditions, many appreciated the cleanliness of the bathrooms and the overall charm of the campground. The location near Mt. Rainier and the peaceful atmosphere during weekdays were also frequently highlighted as positive aspects of the experience.

Restrooms were locked so they had porta potties instead. The porta potties were full
to the lid and it was starting to form a pyramid of poop. We found only one restroom open for the entire campground.
The campsite we stayed at had Potholes so our tent was uneven and there was not much space for us to walk around in our site.
We stayed 1 night and left the next morning. I would not recommend this site. I hope they open up the restrooms and get rid of the porta potties.

I've stayed at a lot of campgrounds in this area and this is by far the worst campground i've ever been to. I think part of it was that I was in Loop A which made it much worse. The other loops looked a lot better, but still the site wasn't even the worst part. We were on site 006 in Loop A and the three sites are all on top of each other.
Now the worst part, the bathrooms... SO GROSS. I've dealt with pretty bad bathrooms but never like this. had to check bathrooms in every loop to finally find one that wasn't overflowing.
The camp hosts were the worst hosts I've ever seen as well. They weren't prepared, the reservation signs were about 8 days behind the actual date we were there. They obviously don't go around to check the bathrooms. People were double booked which wasn't their fault but they weren't prepared to deal with it as they didn't have the right paperwork for that weekend to see who had what reservation. They kept making excuses for the status of this campground. Also, between the time we arrived and when we went to pick up firewood they changed the price which made it so we didn't have exact change and they obviously don't have change. They kept telling us the way they live "off the grid" its hard to know exactly what's going on. If you don't want to be on the grid you shouldn't be a host.
Save yourself a trip and go to any other campground in the area.

The camp host does not enforce the per site occupancy limits. The single site next to us had 36 occupants, 6 tents (4 of which were in our site and we had to hike through the woods to a non-site to pitch our tent) and 6 vehicles. We had to leave a night early. Ruined our planned weekend.

The camp host was not on-site the entire three days we were there. The toilets were closed, and the port-a-potty's were completely full of sewage. Two other camper's had their camp sites stolen despite having a reservation, the existing occupants claimed they had permission from the camp host, but nobody could find the camp host to sort out the dispute. The other camper's were from Seattle and Portland, and had to drive back home. The group who stole the campsite talked loudly all night, keeping my family up (again, no camp host to ask for help).
The only way I would visit again is if the current camp host was fired and replaced with one that was attentive and present. This situation could have escalated because of a lack of an authority figure to force the campsite thieves to leave.

Wonderful, quiet campground. We were in site B13, which was big enough for two tents and close enough to the Cowlitz River that you could hear it rushing just one loop over. We went in mid-to-late June and it was not buggy at all. Looking forward to coming back!
