Summit Lake North is praised for its great location within Lassen National Park, offering scenic views, easy access to hiking trails, and a beautiful lake for swimming. The campground is well-maintained with clean bathrooms and a peaceful atmosphere, making it a favorite for visitors seeking a relaxing camping experience. However, some sites are closely spaced and lack shade, which may affect privacy and comfort.

Stayed at this campsite for two nights and it was AWESOME. Didn't interact with the host but it was easy to find my reserved campsite and it was a really nice location. There is a lake that you can swim in that's right next to the campsites. There are multiple bathrooms, stations for water for drinking all around, and a station to wash dishes! Each campsite had a campfire and a bench. There was also plenty of fire starter (moss, leaves, branches) but you are responsible for bringing your own firewood. Very pretty location. It said max 6 people, but we had 7 in our campsite so I think it was okay. Make sure to keep a printed copy of your reservation and entrance fee in case anyone asks for it! Enjoy :)

We had a wonderful time here. The water was warm enough to swim and there were nice little hiking trails to enjoy with our 4 yo. Nights were so quiet and it was great to get out of the heat. We definitely want to come back.
The only downsides were that a significant part of the park burned in the Dixie Fire, including up to the east side of the campgrounds. There also isn’t much space between camp sites so be good with no privacy.

We have camped for a week at the summit lake for the last 3 years with our kids and family friends, and absolutely love it. The higher altitude means it's not as hot as other places. Being right by the lake is fantastic: there's nothing better than a dip in the lake after a good hike! The camp sites themselves are fairly spacious, and well equipped with fire ring, bear lockers for food, and picnic tables. And the toilets are well maintained! Just a perfect spot. This year, our girls had a blast with all the frogs around the lake. That was probably the highlight for them. :-) Last year, there were absolutely tons (literally thousands) of tadpoles and frogs the first week in August around the Cliff Lake (right before the park closed)... this year, we did that same hike and didn't see any frogs there. That week or two earlier made a lot of difference in the quantity of frogs! Must be spawning at lower altitudes first.
Anyways... summit lake is a favorite of ours! Can't go wrong there.

Our site was a little scruffy. There was basically no vegetation and therefore no privacy from other campers.

Very quiet group of campers this time while we were there, which is nice in a campground where the spaces are fairly close together. So glad it survived the fire.
