About Manzanita Lake Camping Cabins (CA)

Situated near the northwest entrance to the park, the rustic Manzanita Lake Camping Cabins offer convenience and comfort in the scenic setting of Lassen Volcanic National Park. These 20 cabins are the first new accommodations in Lassen Volcanic National Park since 1972, and are available in three models: 2 Room, 1 Room, and Bunkhouse. They are within walking distance of Manzanita Lake, a popular catch & release fishing and family destination, and offer a view of 10,457-foot Lassen Peak, the largest volcano in the park. The cabins are located one mile south of the park entrance, perched at an elevation of 5,890 feet and adjacent to a 179-site campground. The Loomis Museum, Loomis Ranger Station and popular hiking trails are nearby. Educational programs are presented at the museum and amphitheater within the campground.    Groceries, supplies, gifts, gasoline, laundromat and hot showers are located at the nearby Manzanita Lake Camper Store. Our cafe features a variety of delicious and healthy items including salads, fresh fruits, hot or cold sandwiches, espresso drinks and soft-serve ice cream. Kayak and paddle board rentals are also available on a first come, first serve basis at the Camper Store.  A map of our cabins can be viewed under additional information or on our website, www.lassenlodging.com.  Follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ManzanitaLake.

July 27-29. The most beautiful little cabin with screened windows, wood furniture, hooks for clothing, a table and 2 chairs. Plus a little outside deck with chairs. “10 was very shady, welcome, considering the temps were over 90.
The bear box was super clean. Crows/ravens were very loud in the morning and other times when they patrol the campground. Campground was pretty quiet other than that.

The cabin was great and we enjoyed talking to many of our neighbors. We had a number of great hikes. It was quiet at night. The only issue of importance was that the store is advertised as carrying groceries and there were virtually none to speak of except some junk food, there was no milk or eggs or fresh produce. Kayaks were advertised and they were not available for our stay. Firewood is extremely expensive at $15 for a couple of sticks of kindling and five small logs. Next time we will know to bring absolutely everything we might possibly need.

SO MUCH CARPENTER ANTS IN CABIN!
Campsite office did NOTHING even when requested multiple times. Finally, We will not take NO for an answer and the campsite maintenance put out traps and promised to clean up after we left.

We killed about over 100 ants upon arrival.
Such a horrible experience.

Manzanita lake is beautiful and peaceful , yet there is plenty to do —hiking , various water activities like renting a kayak , etc. You can also just sit and relax . It is conveniently located next to the general store where you can get ice , warm food , souvenirs, cold drinks , sandwiches , camping and swimming supplies , etc . You can also gas up and take a shower ( you purchase the code to take a shower inside the store , no need to bring quarters ) . There are flushable toilets and it has electricity and sinks where you can brush your teeth next to the store as well . Scattered throughout the cabin sites are bathrooms (no lighting and not flushable )and water spigots . You also have bear lockers , picnic area, and fire pit next to each cabin . When you book your cabin , be mindful of the types of bed you will get . We stayed at a couple of cabins with a full bed and another with 4 sets of bunk beds (can sleep 8) . The cabins are clean but you’ll have to bring your own lanterns to have adequate lighting . The cabins are close to the lake and many of them have a lake view . They also have a lot of tent and RV camping sites . When we visited, people are respectful about keeping quiet at night and early morning—not sure if it was because of the camp host strictly enforcing it (she is awesome) . It’s located close to a ranger station and one of the park entrance . Overall, it is a wonderful place for family to gather and have different adventures or for a peaceful retreat . I highly recommend it . Bring your walkie talkie if you want to communicate with each other —there is no phone signal or internet here (go to Bumpass Hell for a good AT&T signal ).

Our cabin was close to the lake and the camp store. There are nearby hikes in which you need not get into a car. I just wish I stayed for a few more days.

Walking distance to the Manzanita lake. Site space is large, fire pit is huge. Cabins are well-maintained and clean. Will definitely come back.

We enjoyed our stay in Cabin 14. Cabin 14 is unique in that it is away from the other cabins and also that it faces Manzanita Lake. You get a great feeling of solitude and peace there being away from the other cabins. It was thoroughly clean and smelled of pine and features two sets of tables and chairs: one inside and one outside. It also had a picnic table and fire pit. We also enjoyed that it was ADA FRIENDLY in that it featured a ramp access to front door. Another nice thing is that it very close to vault toilets across the lane. Of course, Manzanita Lake is an amazing place to camp in Lassen Volcanic National Park, we cannot recommend it enough. We frequent the area as much as possible. Manzanita Lake camping also has a camp store, gas stations, showers and amphitheater for evening programs.

We would heartily recommend this cabin with one caveat. The bed was extremely firm. It was unsleepable for us. We ended up having to use our air mattress we brought. So, if you love firm beds then great! If not, please be prepared so it doesn’t adversely affect your stay.
