Lodgepole Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained setting with excellent facilities, including a market, showers, and organized ranger programs. We stayed at #135 upper loop and the creek or stream is right behind this site which is nice. #135 has good enough privacy and pretty good size site compared to some of the other site that would fit only a 4 person tent and zero privacy.
The bad part of the campground is that the restroom was disgusting. There was no cleaning service at all the 3 days we were there. Men's shower facility has 3 out of 5 stalls working and people are lined up around 5PM dinner prep time because they close everything at 7PM.
The first night we camped there, there was a couple cars driving for about 15 minutes in the wrong way in upper loop late evening. Then around 10PM a newer model Ford Bronco showed up setting up camp at the site(#134) next to us and started cooking food and gather around the campfire they just started at 11PM. The 3 of them were speaking some foreign European language not as loud but chatting all the way till 2 or 3AM. Next morning, they broke down their tent really early and left right after 7AM. It was almost like they wanted to leave quick before they were noticed.
Then right after they left, around 8:30AM this group of 4 men started setting up tents at the same site #134. It was almost like they coordinated the timing. The new group told us that they transferred from another site because the one they reserved would not fit 2 tents. It was so strange what was going on at this campground. I have never seen anything like it. Also, people are very active at night all over the campground unlike other campground we stayed at.
Lastly, there was no shuttle starting September 2 for the winter due to labor dispute.

We really enjoyed our campsite location. It was very relaxing and had a good view of the creek and woods. We were at spot #82. It was very close to the trash bins and restrooms. The restrooms were decent, but could use a cleaning. The floor was dirty and had trash on it. The bear bins were easy to use and close to our cooking area and picnic bench. The views at this site were great and you could hear the water from the creek. There were some bees at our site, but to be expected being outdoors.

We read the generator hours in the newspaper we received when we entered. These hours did not agree with the campsite rules. The approach to campsite 7 was awkward and we ended up going the wrong way when leaving the site. Otherwise, everything else was fine.

It was an amazing place. When you stay there, you’ll very close to river and beautiful view. I’ll definitely come again.

Bathrooms Zero Stars!!!! The most disgusting bathrooms I have ever experienced camping in a national park campsite!
Outside of this the location was amazing and well worth the drive. Be mindful of the altitude if coming from sea level as 2 in our party felt altitude sick the first day.

Great park! I have visited many times in my life, This was a very comfortable relaxing vacation.
Can't wait to visit again. Stayed at Lodgepole 3 nights (Trail of Giants is a must ) and Sentinel camp
at the bottom of Kings Canyon 2 nights. Glacier cut canyons and Kings river perfect for a chill afternoon in the hammock.

The commodities at the site were great, if you want to feel more like real camping stay towards the back of the site, if you want to eat at a restaurant instead of cooking over a camp fire stay towards the front. My biggest, and really only complaint I suppose, was the mass volume of yellow jackets. Me, my 5 year old, and my 2 year old got stung pretty good. The ranger was nice enough to move us to a spare campsite on the other end of the area and there were still probably 20 yellow jackets at our site. They kept harassing my kids and trying to eat their food so we had to leave a day early. I understand it's the great outdoors but this is the only site I have ever stayed in up there with this problem.

Grounds were impeccably maintained and very well staffed. Bathrooms were clean. Shuttles were incredibly convenient and the cafe was a huge bonus.

Dangerous Rivers! Many drowning victims were playing near rivers. Rivers present a far greater danger than lakes or pools. Surfaces may look calm, but strong currents often run below. Be cautious walking near rivers as rocks can be slippery. Getting out of a cold, swift river is often impossible.
