What Guests Are Saying
Dearhamer Campground is a well-maintained site with excellent fishing and a beautiful natural ambiance from the nearby rushing river. Camp hosts are friendly and keep the facilities, including the pit toilets, exceptionally clean. While some guests experienced issues with site assignments and off-leash dogs, many plan to return due to the overall positive experience and stunning surroundings.

This campground was absolutely perfect. There was fire wood available to buy, they provided you with fire starter & a screen lid to keep the fire contained, the restrooms were very clean, the sites were spacious, it’s extremely off the grid, and the views nearby are absolutely breathtaking. Oh and there’s also an eagle that lives nearby and is very active. Definitely the highlight of our trip to CO and has turned me into a camping person.

Very pretty setting, fresh water accesses, fairly decent outhouses, very quiet, lots of wildlife, its right next to a river with a trail that leads to it, the drive is a little rough and your vehicle had to be under 35 ft to go on the main road, but overall a great experience.

We had a great time. Stayed 3 nights and it rained the first two nights. We had our dog and made sure to keep him on a 6ft leash at all times, although other campers we're not!

Seemed like a great campground... Unless you got #13 like we did. Site #13 seems like a former public picnic site adjacent to the actual campground. Big anthills under the picnic table, meaning you can't put your feet down unless you want to be bitten. No shade. The picnic table that's there is the only old one that hasn't been upgraded, and it's falling apart. Don't really understand why that site seems way more neglected than the others, but reserve anything other than #13 and you should be good. Never once saw the host with a 3 night stay, so can't comment on them. 10/10 for the area though, beautiful hiking trails, scenic drives, and the reservoir is nice.

We have visited Dearhammer several times over the past 20 years. We love this campground. The camp host, Vickie was wonderful. The facilities were clean. Water is available but no electric. There was no cell service with T-mobile (this was a good thing). We came for the fishing and fished everyday. We also walked out to the reservoir. On the way home we stopped in Nearby Basalt. We also drove home over Independence Pass , which was spectacular!

Went when the water was a little low and still had a great time. Bear lockers for overnight storage, clean bathrooms and plenty of access to trails and water activities. Can't WAIT to come back

Great location by Ruedi reservoir. Kids loved fishing and playing by water was nice. Host was nice although not particularly knowledgeable about surrounding area hikes / activities. The only drawback is that the sites in the middle of the loop have zero privacy. No trees / bushes or anything. I’d stay again but prefer sites on edge of loop.
