Have been camping for 50 years and going here 30+ years. Are there better campgrounds? Yes, BUT combine the campground, the location, and the lake and it is my favorite!

Directions to the campsite are very accurate. It's a hidden gem between the ranches and the mountains. My family and I enjoyed this campsite greatly. Highly recommended and we look forward to returning. We had plenty of room for our 2 tents, 2 hammocks and canopy. We could've easily fit 2 more tents in the space. Only down sides were our camping neighbors riding bikes through our campsite. Warning: the bumpy county road right before the entrance to the camping area requires your attention to avoid a busted tire or wheel. Leave yourself time for hiking the trails or kayaking at Jefferson Lake. So much beauty to take in at one location. We would return in a heartbeat!!

This is a nice basic campground with plenty of shade. We stayed at site 9 on the inside of the ring and those sites are close together with little privacy. If you stay on the outside of the ring the sites seem to offer a little more privacy and are very deep with multiple areas to pitch a tent.
We would definitely come back here in the future. If you are looking to camp with a fire double check the fire ban situation. Unfortunately our reservation was during a stage 2 fire ban which meant no camp fires.

The altitude at Lodgepole and especially at Jefferson Lake is extreme. (10,500+) My COPD came into play. Other than that, the campgrounds are nice but old fashioned. Fishing Jefferson Creek is tough because it is mostly a series of beaver ponds but I found lots of willing brookies.
