The camp host is outstanding—he takes exceptional care of the grounds and is always friendly, helpful, and attentive to guests. Aside from the high elevation, this is by far the best remote campground in Colorado. The peaceful setting, well-maintained facilities, and overall experience make it a place I would gladly return to.

The campground host was very helpful. I was having trouble backing into my spot. He offered to help guide me in. The grounds and restroom was very clean. The lights in the trees was cool. The host even delivered our firewood after he split it. When we were packing out the host came by and wished us a safe trip home.

Campsite 18
The area is beautiful. The site was nice, HOWEVER I have a 32’ pull behind trailer. The site said this will fit a trailer up to 40’. It took over 30 minutes trying to back it with the assistance of three neighbor campers. The campers moved their vehicles to try and make it easier to get it. It was still very difficult. Same with exiting the site. Maneuver a little at a time until finally got out. The good things are plenty of trees. The bad thing for a camper is that there are plenty of trees. Could not open our canopy. If you have a smaller trailer or tent, this is an excellent spot. They need to change the 40’ to 25ish. I wish I would have read the reviews prior. I guess I’m not the only one that had issues.

The campground was well maintained and the bathrooms were very clean. The camp host has done a great job with some upgrades and really seems to care about the how the campground looks. We've been camping at Columbine for many years but this was by far the most impressed we've been.

There was a lot of hiking and a reservoir close by for fishing. Not sure it had fish though ; ) We will definitely go back next season.

Campground is nice facilities are good . Road getting in is a rough one !!!!!! Expect a yard sale inside your camp trailer !

Getting There
From I25 in Denver, take 6th Ave West to state Highway 6, through clear Creek Canyon. Proceed north on State Highway 119, turn left on Gilpin County Road 279 (Gregory St. next to Bullwackers Casino) in Black Hawk, follow signs to Central City. Gre...
From I25 in Denver, take 6th Ave West to state Highway 6, through clear Creek Canyon. Proceed north on State Highway 119, turn left on Gilpin County Road 279 (Gregory St. next to Bullwackers Casino) in Black Hawk, follow signs to Central City. Gregory St. changes to Lawrence St, at Central City limits, then changes to Eureka St. midway thru Central City. Proceed on Eureka St. until road turns to gravel \& follow signs to campground. Campground is located 2 mi northwest of Central City on County Road 279. Two and one-half miles Northwest of Central City via Gilpin County Road 3 on Forest Road 176. At the top near the cemeteries, follow the signs to the campground.
Highway access
Columbine Campground is accessible via U.S. Route 285, which is approximately 12 miles to the west. Additionally, Colorado State Highway 93 is about 15 miles to the northeast.
