What Guests Are Saying
Columbine Campground offers beautiful scenery, clean facilities, and a friendly camp host, making it a pleasant camping experience. Many visitors enjoyed the hiking opportunities and proximity to local attractions, with some even spotting wildlife like moose. However, noise from nearby off-road vehicles and loud campers can be disruptive, particularly on weekends.

This campsite is great on its own - easy location, clean vault toilets, friendly campsite host, proximity to Golden Gate Canyon State Park - but the nearby ATV course is a major drawback for anyone wanting to escape to quiet, peaceful nature. You can't hear the actual ATV course activity from the site, but riders zoom through the campgrounds all hours of the night and day, revving their engines and blasting loud music. They also don't slow down on the narrow, curvy lane from the course to the campsite, so there were several times we almost collided head-on with an ATV speeding up the road, who proceeded to honk, curse, and gesture at us. Their behavior was rude at best and dangerous at worst; I'm disappointed that neither the campsite host nor the law enforcement officers said anything to curb the bad behavior in and around the campgrounds. There were also RVs always running loud generators and blasting loud, tree-shaking party music, well beyond sundown. This is definitely a party campsite, NOT a nature campsite. Wish we would have known that in advance - we would have looked elsewhere.

CHECK your directions to this campground before coming, there is a very rough 4wd road that is not suitable for most passenger cars and RVs that both google and Waze recommended. Columbine Campground road is the best route in. The campsites are nice and have a lot of space although not very level

Over the years more guests have been bringing ATVs. While most ATVs guest are considerate of their neighbors, the traffic does detract from the beauty of this location. I would recommend not allowing ATVs.

Great place for outdoor vehicles - access road can be a bit bumpy at the beginning but smooths out towards the campground.

This campground may have been very nice at one time. It appears that they’re trying to make it better once again. There were graders and backhoes working in the campground while I was there - which I’m sure was necessary but doesn’t make for the quietest camping experience.

It is easy to miss the turn off. The road into the campground is not good lots of ruts and rocks. Great weekend at the campground.

Quiet overall. Bathrooms were clean. Not too many bugs. Stream nearby for the kids to play in.
