What Guests Are Saying
Echo Lake offers beautiful views and well-maintained hiking trails, making it a lovely area for outdoor enthusiasts. Many guests appreciated the cleanliness of the bathrooms and the attentiveness of the campground staff. However, some found the campsite spacing too close and faced challenges with signage and navigation to the campground. Overall, it's a pleasant spot for camping, especially for those seeking nature and hiking opportunities.

Assigned spaces are pretty close together. If tent camping, recommend taking a tent-only spot. Great experience!

Campsite 003 - beautiful site in woods. Adjacent campsites are not close to this site. (Not like the very close sites in RMNP). Not rated "walk-in" but it was a little farther walk than typical, so if you want to be close to your car select one of their other sites. Echo Lake Lodge (old 2 story log building) is very scenic, a nice tourist shop, there are distant lake views and hummingbirds from some dining room windows. (No hotel rooms). Log frame restaurant closes at 5 pm or 6 pm. Bison chili extremely hot/spicy. (Public restroom in the Lodge is closed to the public. Porta potty outside and if you are a diner you can wash your hands in the dining room sink). Elev 10,500'. This is part way up on the Mt. Evans Scenic Byway 28 mile road (from Idaho Springs) which you can drive to the top of Mt. Evans, 14,130'.

There is NO water at this campground, plus the restrooms are shut down at the lodge restaurant next door. There are port-a-potties, but no place to wash hands at all. The campsites are very close together (much closer than they look on the map), but the views of the lake are great.

This is a busy campground but is has been sadly neglected. The host does very little to keep the facilities clean. Outhouses were not cleaned daily although the toilet paper was always stocked. During the week we stayed the outhouses were not mopped nor the cans and seats cleaned. Very disappointed. Not what we experienced 4 years ago.
Although there is a hand pump, it is very difficult to operate.
The forest service has not maintained the road or ditches. The road is being washed out and is rough. To get into one site you have to cross an ever widening and deepening ditch. It could soon be a big problem. If they fixed the ditches, the water would run through the culverts and wouldn’t be destroying the road and campsite entrance.
Note: For many campsites, the parking area is only a few feet from the parking area for the next site.

Our site was too narrow for our slide. Unfortunately our trailer cannot function without the slide out. It said a 30 ft trailer could fit in the site, however ours is 26 feet and could barely fit length wise. We drove 2 hours and had to return home same day. Would have loved to talk to the camp host to see if he had any ideas but the two hours we were there waiting for him and he never returned. Just a sign that said be back soon. Lost our money and 6 hours of our day.

Great location especially if you are going to summit Mount Evans. Echo Lake is beautiful and the lodge has a gift shop and meals until 5:00 PM.

Camp ground and site was clean and ready. Can be tricky, Echo lake is a very busy campground.
