Pinon Flats Campground

Well the campground itself was nice. The other campers were super loud. I was not expecting to feel I was at a Denver apartment complex with people letting their kids scream and fight all day long and with just so much noise.
I doubt I will camp here again as it was not restful. Other campers were just not respectful of anyone else or the environment. They were hanging in the trees and breaking the tree branches. It just seemed they brought the suburbs and all the city noise with them. I was looking for peace and quiet. I was reminded of why I backpack or camp off grid in the national forest.
One night 3 campsites converged across from my site and proceeded to have a 4-5 hour long party.....so I had driven a long way to see the stars and rest. I had zero rest. I would not recommend this campground if you are actually wanting to connect with nature and enjoy the quiet. I camped in early June for 2 nights. Campsite number 43. Oh, and I forgot to mention the campers who ran their generator for hours.....ugh. Seriously....just disrespectful of anyone else around. You could camp in your car anywhere and have a better experience.

Clean and beautiful! Camp store was also fun! It is a bit noisy though. But that can be expected on a weekend in a busy campground.

We stayed in a site that had plenty of room and some shade. I was happy to snag any site at all last minute like I did, but site #88 was good. Not too far from a restroom either, which was MUCH nicer than expected! Very clean, with flushing toilets and running water. (My only complaint was that a heater seemed to be on inside--it was too hot in there for summertime, but I'd bet it's nice in the winter.) We were also impressed with the camp store and the woman staffing it. They had everything you might need (we'd forgotten bug spray) and she was very friendly. Even drove around the campsites to make sure everyone had enough firewood before she closed up for the night. Great stay at the Sand Dunes!!

Although the campsite itself had a lively view of the sand dunes, the campground was loud- yelling children, teens playing music at high volume, big fAMILIES (8+ despite stated limit of 6) with unsupervised children zooming around on bikes. There did not seem to be a campground host and no one to enforce rules. I was up by 6 to get on the road early and so were many loud families. Not my kind of camping.

Great, clean campsite with beautiful views of the sand dunes. Campground is well maintained. Rangers are friendly and informative. Bathrooms in the campground are very clean.

The campground is beautiful, with amazing views of the sand dunes, San Luis Valley and the mountains. The campsite was spacious and the facilities were clean and convenient. Highly recommend it!

It was a shame to see sites sit empty with "reserved" posted. Unfair to general public that camp host cannot release sites when people are not showing up for reservations. Some sites are sitting empty for two weeks while members of the public are "locked" out and have no recourse to get a site. Please fix this. Camp host should have power to release site is they don't hear from campers who don't show. Thank you!

Please, everyone who sees this or who was locked out of any national park camping experience, write to Rec dot.gov and ask for change. write Dept of interior as well. This is a travesty.

Great experience! Clean area, nice bathroom, great view. Would recommend
