Site #60 Loop 2 - 1 night
Nice campsite with bathroom and Overlook Trail nearby. Had to back in 22" Class C RV with rooftop AC and parked close to the stonewall. Trees were not trimmed for this curved driveway.

Site 88 is a very large and level campsite. I feel like the pictures aren’t able to show just how much room there is. Easily fit our XL family tent and sport tent, and we could have fit 1-2 more normal size tents. Great afternoon shade for the tent we were able to put under the trees. Close to the camp store and bathrooms. Bathrooms are very clean. There is a sink outside the bathrooms to wash dishes. Well pump for drinking water. Beautiful views and daily mule deer visits. Impeccable star gazing!

Great clean campsite with great shade during the afternoon hours. The trail to the dunes is not far, and the restroom with sink is pretty close, but there’s nowhere to place dishes by this sink. I’ve been to this campground in October and the bugs weren’t bad, but September the flys are bad during the day and the gnats at sunset. This site has great space and good shade

Beautiful and peaceful site. Pull through is quite small and could pose problems for some. Worked perfectly with my midsize SUV. Close to the bathroom and trash bins.

Pinion Flats is perhaps the cleanest and quietest campground I've experienced. Although I only camped for two nights it was a great experience. Highly recommended.

The stay was actually good but the site we had had no trees and we had chosen it because it showed trees. We were at the last site and just open to heat and sun. I can't remember the site number but it was the first loop and the last one.

We had a great stay. Excellent location, courteous campers (no one was loud and disruptive). Dishwashing sinks are a super bonus. Only issue was a rather tilted tent pad so we slid down on the sleeping pad through the night.

A beautiful camp site! My one issue though was the angle of the parking spots for each campsite. It is set up for pulling-great for cars and tent camping but not for backing in a trailer unless you go the wrong way through the one way loop. We were only there for one night so we just dealt with it but the flat part of the sites require backing in. I should probably call the park…

From Highway 160, turn north on Highway 150 and follow for 16 mi to the entrance of Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve. Continue 5 mi north on the park's main road to reach the campground entrance.
From Highway 285, turn south onto CO-17 and follow for 36 mi (36 mi). Turn east onto Lane 6 and follow for 16 mi (16.2 mi) to Highway 150. Turn north onto Highway 150 and follow for 2.6 mi (2.5 mi) to the entrance of Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve. Continue 5 mi (5 mi) north on the park's main road to reach the campground entrance.
Highway access
Pinon Flats Campground is accessible via Highway 160, which is approximately 16 miles away, and Highway 285, which is about 36 miles away. Highway 150 provides direct access to the campground from both highways.
Policies & Rules
General
- You must have a reservation to camp at Piñon Flats Campground. First-come, first-serve camping is not available.
- Choose your site carefully. If you arrive in camping equipment that is larger than the site, there will not be an alternative site available and you will have to find accommodation outside the park.All tents and gear must fit within established tent pads and/or within rock wall.
- Maximum of 8 people, 2 tents, 2 vehicles per site. Not all sites fit 2 tents or 2 vehicles, a trailer counts as a vehicle. Please see each individual site details, warnings and need to know for specifications.There must be at least one adult (18+) staying in each site.
- There is no waiting list for campsites and staff cannot hold available sites at the campground.
- Total combined length limit is 35 feet. RVs over 35 feet, or combined vehicle plus trailer length over 35 feet, are not allowed in the campground. Trailers, RVs, and Vehicles cannot block the road and must be parked on pavement.
- Generator use is permitted only between the hours of , and .
- Nothing can be attached to any trees or vegetation, to include hammocks, ropes, garbage bags, etc.
- No showers, hookups or laundry facilities available in the park.
- Never leave fires unattended! Extinguish fire with water, not dirt. Firewood gathering is prohibited; wood may be purchased at the camp store.
- Utilize bear boxes at all times and keep campsite clean. No food, garbage, or cooking equipment may be left unattended. Picnic tables cannot be moved from one site to another.
- Scooters, skateboards, and inline skates are not permitted in the campground. Drones are not permitted anywhere within park boundaries. Fireworks are prohibited.
- Pets must be on leash at all times and not left unattended. Pick up after pets, dispose of waste properly.
- Group sites are tent-only; no RVs or trailers allowed.
- An entrance pass is required while in the park and is not included in the camping fee.
- For emergencies, dial 911 from your cell phone.
