What Guests Are Saying
Pinon Flats Campground is well-regarded for its friendly camp host, Nancy, and beautifully maintained facilities, including clean restrooms and stunning views of the sand dunes. The campground offers a peaceful atmosphere, ample tree cover, and easy access to hiking trails. However, some sites are small and not fully accessible for individuals with mobility challenges, and issues with noise from other campers have been noted. Overall, it is a memorable camping experience with great amenities.

The stars are amazing from this campground! We loved the easy access to the parks trails from our campsite.
Bonus - there are flush toilets and cold running water in the super clean bathrooms!

This campground was very neat, felt brand new. Clean, modern bathrooms with running water. Beautiful views of the dunes from most sites. Easy access to hiking trails. Camp store was not open though, and hours were inaccurate.

Beautiful location! Bathrooms were clean, lit and always had toilet paper and soap. Sites had ample space between them, all campers were respectful and considerate. Easy walk to the dunes!

For those of us who travel and are not sure where we will spend the evening, it would be nice to have a couple of campsites that are first come first served. It would also be nice to have a viable internet connection when one arrives at a Federal site so we can make the reservation once we are there. The campground host said it is a common problem of not being able to connect with the internet depending on the weather. I know that's a risk we take by not scheduling our trip day by day, but some parks or forests are worth spending more time at once you get there and see the beauty of the area. My life was always on a schedule when I worked, but once I retired it is nice to have some flexibility when you travel and decide to spend more time. I know I am old fashioned, but it puts more fun in the trip when there is flexibility.

We loved the campground with its many trees and shade, which was surprising considering how close we were to sand dunes.
Unfortunately the park rangers were a touch over the top, setting on lights for simple reminders for campers, and causing big scenes for situations that could have easily been dealt with with a quick conversation.

The site was very nice, except for the steps to get to it, I really needed a flat space so next time I will check the pictures and the fine print better. The park is great, very clean, and even with a full campground it was very quiet in the evenings, except for a few of the dogs. The rangers were very helpful and pleasant which made the entire stay more enjoyable. Will try to return in the future, but it is one of those parks you have to want to go to if you are not local because it is a little out of way.

Camp site was clean, camp ground was near capacity but quiet and safe. Flush toilets were an added bonus. Site was barely big enough for a 16’ bumper tow trailer and F250 (unhitched) but we made it work. Dune overlook trailhead is in the campground, 2 miles total gives a nice view of the dunes.

Had a great time at the sand dunes. Used walking sticks, water bottle and hat. Fun watching all the kids use their sleds and boards. Great nights for star gazing too. Stay couple of days if you can. Good place for riding bikes. Next time I’m bringing mine!

It was a pleasant experience tent camping in the campground. The shade at our site was very much appreciated. The campground and facilities were clean and well maintained. The only down side is that we could not purchase any firewood during our visit in late September.Being able to explore the dunes later and camp close to revisit early morning while not hot was great. The later checkout made the last day easier.
