It is a beautiful and quiet place. It was made spectacular by the friendly attention of Rick, the host. We have camped all over the country and have never had a more friendly and accommodating host. He’s a keeper!

Great campground, a wee bit off the beaten path, but accessible to all manner of RVs. A dirt one-mile +/- earth trail around the lake is perfect even for those a little apprehensive of walking trails. The lake was too cold during my stay, but there is a beach, warm shower and a very friendly & attentive Host. Be advised, it is posted - no alcohol -.

Nice quite little camp ground.. No septic dump, and there is a $10 charge for electric, as well as a $8 booking fee on top of the regular rates. That's a pretty steep price compared to what we are used to. Each site has plenty of space as well as privacy from adjacent sites. Strongly recommend bringing a box fan to keep the knats at bay, as well as your favorite bug spray if walking around. Camp host were very friendly!

The last 2 miles of an unpaved lime rock road was rough with a lot of potholes, but we drove slow took 22 minutes to go two miles. When we got to the campground it was worth the drive. Our site had electric and water was pretty flat and you are looking at the lake. The bathrooms were clean, Rick and his wife who were the campground hosts on duty were the highlight of the property. They were very helpful and informative. While we were there they were like friends not just hosts. We will definitely return here and stay longer. I will not tell anyone how nice this is because I do not want it filling up with Yankees and Canucks like all our Fl. State Parks and National campgrounds in Fl. Do not fix the road maybe that will keep a lot of folks away.

My wife and I decided to rent a C-Class RV and see what traveling and camping in a RV was all about. This was our first time in a RV and boy did we luck out getting a reservation at Camel Lake Campgrounds in the Apalachicola National Forest. 12 miles south of Bristol on SR12. Entry road FR105 is a little rough in spots but can handle all types of campers. Small campground with only 10 sites, 4 with power and water hookups (#1 - #4). We stayed at site #3 and had a beautiful view of the lake. The campground has flush toilets and showers. All sites have a charcoal grill and firepit. Plenty of hiking and biking on the forest lanes and a nice 1 mile trail around the lake. Campground hosts Rick and Kay are the best and were extremely helpful answering all the questions we had about RV hookups and advice on a free dump station at Wright Lake campgrounds just down the road. We have Verizon cell service and could only get 2 bars at the day use area but that was the only negative. We would definitely stay here again and bring a canoe or kayak!

Beautiful and serene campground with large campsites, not to many. Good view of the lake from most places. There is a hiking trail that is well maintained going around the lake. The campground is far away from any busy roads so there is no traffic noise. I really enjoyed the time we spent at this campground. The campground host was pleasant and friendly, available.

Great, quiet spot. Plenty of trail mileage. Lots of dirt and forest service roads to explore. Sites are spacious and clean.

great place. hiked the trail. host was very nice.
I replaced 2 light bulbs at bathhouse. 2 were burnt out. 2 were working. Quiet. sites far enough apart for privacy. Will be back Summer for the beach there. It was cool hot cold so bathhouse sweated. Perhaps larger ceiling fan in bathrooms would dry out the bathrooms better. See you soon Camel Lake.,

Camel Lake is a very small campground, 10 sites, I believe. There is a 2 mile dirt road to the campground. It feels very isolated so keep that in mind. A few sites have water and electric, but not all. There is no dumping station. The bathrooms were clean. The walking path around the lake was very enjoyable.

Take SR 20 west from Tallahassee through Hosford to Bristol. Turn south on SR 12. Continue south to the Apalachicola National Forest boundary sign and look for a sign for Camel Lake soon after you pass the work station and trailhead on the left. Turn left on Forest Road 105, which is an unpaved road. Drive 2 miles to the recreation area entrance on the right.
