Kipahulu Campground

Being able to book a site means that we no longer feel the need to rush directly to the campsite in order to get a spot! We have camped here many times before and were excited to bring our daughter for the first time. She loved the stars and the sunrise that we could see from our tent! Unfortunately, she got a fever and we had to head out earlier than expected...but we booked again for the next holiday week-end!

While I think I understand that closing swimming in the pools has made it easier for staff at the park. I want to suggest a pass/waiver program so that those of us who were raised to respect the fresh water swimming opportunities at Oheo could still swim there. I swam there as a child and raised my children camping there for school breaks. Dad would always go in first to inspect the pools and "sound" the depths to make sure there was no obstructive rubble for safe jumping off the rocks. We respected the park, forests and Oheo river. It is frustrating to have lost the opportunity to swim there, seemingly due to visitor disrespect and litigious behavior. Perhaps there is a middle ground where experienced locals could have an opportunity to sign waivers and swim when we know it to be safe, with respect to mauka rains, weather signals, and safe practices. It has been a life long healing opportunity to swim in Oheo and express gratitude to Hina and Kanaloa for the opportunity. What can we do to restore this opportunity?

Camp @ site #13 with a camper van ! The restrooms was ok and there is flush toilet in the visitor center. The sunrise was amazing !

Great spot!

This site is totally worth the drive! Beautiful sunrises and rainbows every morning! The hike to the waterfall is the perfect start to the day.
No showers, that would be a nice addition. No food options unless you drive the windy road back to Hana.

Great quiet campground. The toilets were really clean. Not a lot of hiking to do but it was great to go and see the waterfalls and the bamboo forest.

Great place, separated from other sites. Nr 19 and 20 are the most separated. In My opinion nb 19 is better because it is not close to general camping and it is not on the way of trail. The views are great and the nature around. The parking lot is around 3-5 min walk.

Site nb 5 is in shade, under the big tree which is so great. The tent and the car are in shade. When it rains they are covered. The staff at the entrence is so nice!

I had a greatb2 nights at this CG - stayed in sites 14 and 15, both of which overlook the ocean. Bathrooms were standard CG pit toilets, but were clean and always had TP. Just be sure to give yourself enough time to get to the CG before dark - the road past Hana is no joke!
I use Mint Mobile and had decent coverage at the CG.

Absolutely wonderful time!
