What Guests Are Saying
Avalanche Campground is highly praised for its beautiful, quiet setting and proximity to popular hiking trails like Avalanche Lake and the Trail of the Cedars. The campground is well-maintained, with clean facilities and attentive camp hosts, making it a great base for exploring Glacier National Park. While some campers noted issues with privacy and the lack of showers and lights in the bathrooms, the overall experience is considered excellent by many visitors.

I stayed at site A15, which is very nice and spacious. There is a dumpster and restrooms nearby, and Starlink also works from the site.

Great site. Quite and didn't feel like you were camped on top of others. Lots of shade!

We loved the basic campsites on offer. They were spacious with the right amount of trees and vegetation. The portable toilet emptying area was an often forgotten amenity that was a nice touch. The campground had a quite and relaxed vibe. Great location for day hikes!

My favorite campground in the park. Loop A is great for tent campers (no generators and not close to the loop that allows them). Easy access to the trail of cedars and Avalanche Lake as well as the river across GTTS road. No shops or firewood for sale but if you’re self-sufficient, this is a great spot tucked off the road in the trees. Bathrooms are clean but none have soap (baffles me that all the roadside restrooms have hand soap but campsite bathrooms where they collect extra fees do not). Zero cell reception at this campground.

Great campground! It’s right at the base of the Trail of Cedars trailhead and right across the street from a shuttle stop. You can take the shuttle up Logan pass to the other end of GTTSR or down to Apgar. Bring soap and a flashlight for the bathrooms. Definitely snag a spot here if you can, especially if you plan on hiking.

Nice tree covered sites in a great location. Bathroom facilities are one up from backcountry- only a toilet and dribble of freezing water from one faucet. not even a light in the bathroom. I think that it could be better than that.

Campground is great! Lots of shade, not too crowded, sites have a decent amount of separation. Maintenance of the bathrooms is a bit lacking. The lights have been removed from some of the bathrooms. The bathrooms need painting and repairs.

I liked my campsite at the end of August. It was right by the camp host and I had lovely camp neighbors. The bathroom was right behind me. It was next to Avalanche Lake so it was easy to hike that trail and the Trail of Cedars on the Going to Sun Road. Having the camp reservation allowed me on Going to the Sun Road. The weather was kind- not too much rain and snow didn't come until the second to last day. There was a bear vault and bear resist garbage cans.
