What Guests Are Saying
Black Canyon Campground is praised for its cleanliness, well-maintained facilities, and beautiful surroundings, making it a favored spot for campers. The spacious sites, friendly camp hosts, and proximity to hiking trails and Santa Fe enhance the overall experience. However, the lack of water has been a consistent issue, and some visitors have reported problems with caterpillar infestations and site accessibility.

NOISY, Cramped, and very uncomfortable and unnatural.

Our camp spot was wonderful, the entire area was quiet and so picturesque. Friendly neighbors, the trail starting in the campground was great too. We brought our 2 and 4 year olds and they loved it.

This is a well-maintained campsite, with clean pit toilets. We have gone several times and love it! There is just enough seclusion that campsites are not on top of each other.

It’s honestly such a beautiful area and despite the fact that we couldn’t stay at our reserved location, I loved the scenery.
The road to our campsite was blocked off by a metal gate that was locked. A lot of people, like us, had to turn back and leave because there was no other way in. I submitted a complaint but have yet to hear back and it’s been a week already.

We love Black Canyon and have stayed there many times before. This time we found the restrooms located close to site #23 terrible stinky! We had to 'hold our breath' while using them. We are campers and use 'outside toliets' often, but these toilets were bad.
Water at this camp site has been unavailable for the last couple of years; hopefully, a new water pump is in the budget for 2021.

The campsite was great! We were closer to the road but the sounds died down after 11 pm. The campsite was clean, easy to find, and well spaced apart from other sites. The restrooms were okay, but a bummer not having water to wash hands (not a big deal since we had our own water). The only issue I had was seeing that someone pooped in the woods near the campsite and left it under a rock. :( Restrooms were a 30 second walk away! People suck. HA.

When we arrived, there was no water at the campground. It was late, and we had to drive back into town to find water. This was extremely inconvenient with two small children. It would be nice if recreation.gov could email us ahead of time and let us know that there is no water to be had at the campground.
