Lake Powhatan offers a fantastic location near Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway, with well-maintained, private campsites and friendly staff. Lovely, quiet site. Just a little occasional noise from a road down the hill. Friendly people at the gatehouse, camp hosts coming around in golf carts, very well-maintained campground and I felt very safe as a woman camping alone. There was a black bear alert while I was there, but I took precautions (locking up food in my car) and had no trouble.
The path to the bathhouse from this site is across the small one-way loop road and just a little tricky, I suggest finding the way there and back first in daylight or you might end up cutting through someone else's campsite, ask me how I know :)
I was pleased to find that I had two bars of cell service with Verizon. I agree with other that the showers have low water pressure and you have to stand very near the wall to use them, but I found it manageable. Bathhouse was clean and water was warm. Excellent camping experience, only 20 minutes from my appointment the next morning in Asheville, I'll be back!

Lake Powhaten is close to Asheville, NC. Has plenty of hiking and mountain biking trails. Facilities are clean, staff is friendly. The sites are very private and well sized. Couldn't ask for anything better

This is a great campsite not too far from Asheville. Lots of hiking trails available and Bent Creek is an absolute mountain biking mecca! Right next to the Arboretum and Blue Ridge Parkway.

Amazing experience, beautiful grounds, clean facilities, and the fire wood we purchased actually burned unlike some other camp grounds , great location . Hosts where super friendly and nice we will definitely go back

We always enjoy our camping trips at Lake Powhatan. There are running/hiking/biking trails within the campground, and nearby. The lots are well maintained and private. The bathrooms and showers are clean.
The NC Arboretum is right down the road, and Asheville is 15 minutes away.
