What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

We were able to pick a spot where we weren't terribly close to other campers, and we felt like we had a place of our own. We were able to camp when the fireflies were out, and they looked amazing. The camp host was nice as well! We would definitely camp here again!

So much to see at GSMNP - don't miss the Quiet Walkways and short nature trails throughout the park.

We had a great experience, including seeing lots of elk, even in the campground! The camp host was very friendly and helpful, and the office staff were also great. They helped us switch campsites in order to be in a sunnier spot for our solar panels and explained what the later posts were. (We saw people using them for all sorts of crazy things!)

Beautiful campground. Lots of wildlife. I was there during the monarch butterfly migration. There were hundreds of butterflies. Saw pileated woodpecker, elk, had a run in with a timber rattlesnake on a trail so be aware. Had a wild baby pig run through camp. Lots of trails and it right next to the river. Beautiful place

We had a very nice site at smokemont. This was our first time here. We stayed 5 nights. Elk were in the campground too. Restroom has flush toilets, water fill up and dump station made it convenient. It's only 7 miles to Cherokee. We saw elk and turkey. Shopped and enjoyed a delicious burger. Had our generator during the day. Everyone was nice except mother nature. Lots of rain. We hope to return.
