Wonderful campsite! Needs better labeled recycling bins - I think they are only for cans and aluminum, but labels are long gone. There are many recyclable products thrown out as a result and the recycling bins contaminated because people don't know they are limited to these two products.

If you go, look closely to make sure that the wood you are being sold for your campfire is cured and dry so that it will burn. The showers do provide hot water, however they are a push-handle style (about 20 seconds), one-temp-fits-all, and provide an extremely hard and fine spray. The shower is housed in the same stall as the toilet, providing an unsavory lack of campsite sanitation. The toilety facilities function but are far from clean. Adding a surface for your toiletries or even a bench on which to sit or place towels would facilitate a much-improved experience, particularly when camping with children. The access roads thru the site are heavily pitted in many places, particularly the unpaved sections. Watch your tires and axles, especially after a heavy rain, which will fill the holes and make it difficult to see how deep the puddles are. As the entire camping site is deep within the woods, be prepared for what is normally a very damp and moist camping experience. Note also that there is no connectivity or cell services, and that should you desire to change the site to which you have been assigned, you will be required to leave the area to return to the nearest town, Franklin, NC, to use your device to access the Recreation.gov site and cancel your reservation and obtain a refund. There are many sites available (it's a pretty a big campsite) and upon your return you will have to pay immediately for your new replacement site. We were there in early August and there were very few bugs/mosquitoes, which was a plus.

Too many generators and kids. Unsupervised very young children on trikes and bikes.

Standing Indian is our favorite campground! The camp hosts are wonderful and always helpful! We stay numerous times a year, and feel like it’s our home away from home. The reason for the good rating versus an excellent one is due to the lack of gravel in the campsites. Of course we know that when we go camping it’s going to rain sometimes, and no one has control over that., but some good gravel covering the sites would sure help. It rained off and on everyday the last week we were there, and our campsite had literally no gravel. Needless to say it took us days to clean up the mud from our camper , chairs, screen house, etc. after we returned home. That does not make for a “ happy camper “! I know that numerous campers have complained about the lack of gravel for years, but it hasn’t changed anything. Some sites have fair gravel coverage, while others have little to none. We are more familiar with loop 3 since that is where we like to stay. So...... our advise is be prepared for a muddy mess if you get rain, and that’s no fun!

Conveniently close to numerous hiking trails. As a tent camper seeking peace and quiet, I enjoyed the atmosphere of the D loop. Wish I had known to bring my tube for the stream.

We've been to Standing Indian many times. The only complaint is the camp hosts sell green firewood to the campers and keep the seasoned wood for themselves.

There are beautiful sites at the campground unfortunately ours wasn’t one of them. Ours was on a narrow inclined gravel access road with underbrush close in. Backing into it was extremely difficult. The water source had the threads sawed off so we had to fill our tank at another loop. Not a great experience.
