Wasn’t what I had hoped for. The beauty of the dunes and the sound of the ocean nearby is the only reason for giving 2 Stars. The site has too many pads placed too close together. This means more inconsiderate people are sure to be a constant annoyance.
To make matters worse, a late arrival (8 hours late!) started setting up his campsite at midnight. The sound of the ocean and the site, with its beautiful dunes was overwhelmed by the sound of tone deaf visitors setting up their site in the middle of night. Too many people! I prefer a more “off grid” experience and cannot imagine what a visit in summer would be like for people who like their privacy.

I arrived in the dark and found everything easy to access. The Campground was totally free of trash and a short walk to the beach. My non electric B14 site bordered the dunes where I could also see the lighthouse. The Beach was quiet and the campground is close to beach vehicle ramp access if you need it. Bathrooms were spotless, trash cans empty. In November it’s pretty slow at the campground so everybody there had plenty of space. I could see this being a more challenging place in the summer with no shade, near hwy 12 noise/traffic and lots of sites close together. Thanks to the hosts and rangers who are working in extremely difficult circumstances to give us wonderful recreation areas like this. Your work is appreciated! I would love to return here in the off season really memorable experience.

Lovely location with good access to the wide sandy beaches. Central location for exploring OBX. Clean bathrooms. A laundry area would be nice. Would definitely return.

Good place to camp, just the way it is. Beautiful area for getting away to relax. Park personnel friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful if needed.

Nice campground in a gorgeous location. Well kept campsites and clean bathrooms with HEATED SHOWERS, although they are open to the outside and you get cold. Still that's much better than Ocracoke, that only has cold showers.

No wood fires allowed. Showers were shut down two days before we arrived. Nothing on the website about them closing.

This campground was great. From here we got to see the Outer Banks from one point to the other. Nags Head, Duck, Wright Brothers Memorial, Hatteras Lighthouse, etc. Nice clean sites with power and water. We would definitely stay again. Also half price with our America the Beautiful Pass.

Nestled in the dunes with a short walk to the beach couldn’t be better.
