We loved everything about this campground. The facilities were clean and well kept, enough space for large trailers and it was quiet. The entire experience was peaceful.

We visited to watch the Gemenid meteor shower. It was a great site for star viewing. The bathrooms were clean and warm during our winter stay.

Central location for several of our destinations this trip- Kitty Hawk, Buxton, and Mann’s Harbor. The campsites are all beautiful as they are nestled in the dunes and the night sky is breathtaking. Fellow campers were pleasant and the rangers very helpful!

Terrible beach access, we had a 3 and 5 year old a never thought we would have to drag them that far to the beach. Also it is mind boggling that you can drive full size trucks on the beach but ebikes apparently cause too much erosion. There is a million hiking path eroding the dunes but heaven forbid there's one easy path that would alleviate all that damage.

Disappointed with showers. Outdoor ones were closed down and there were no indoor showers.

Had a great time. Went to the graveyard of the Atlantic museum. Very interesting look into history of the outer banks. Love how close the beach is from camp grounds and like the sand dunes.

Wish it was a little warmer but it was a great Thanksgiving weekend at the beach.

Wasn’t what I had hoped for. The beauty of the dunes and the sound of the ocean nearby is the only reason for giving 2 Stars. The site has too many pads placed too close together. This means more inconsiderate people are sure to be a constant annoyance.
To make matters worse, a late arrival (8 hours late!) started setting up his campsite at midnight. The sound of the ocean and the site, with its beautiful dunes was overwhelmed by the sound of tone deaf visitors setting up their site in the middle of night. Too many people! I prefer a more “off grid” experience and cannot imagine what a visit in summer would be like for people who like their privacy.

Spent four days/three nights in our 16' trailer at site C14 over Thanksgiving week. Pad is paved and fairly level, with limited but barely adequate room for backing (would not want to try it with a large rig when the place is crowded). Water pressure was fair (sometimes had to supplement with onboard tank pump) and power was clean (no sewer hook-up; dump station at the marina across the highway). Weather started out cool but pleasant, turning bitter cold on Friday (30 degrees with 30 MPH winds: I call that bitter). Outdoor shower rooms were closed. Men's and ladies' rooms were not heated. Be careful walking your dog: sand spurs are pretty much everywhere. Felt very comfortable and safe while there. Easy if moderately long walk to the actual beach. Strand is very wide, though. Overall a pleasant stay, but, with our small-capacity combined black/grey tank, we really prefer full hook-ups. Even so, we were able to conserve (as in not shower!) and were careful about collecting all grey water.
