What Guests Are Saying
Cougar Rock Campground offers spacious, clean sites with good privacy and easy access to Mount Rainier trails, making it an ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts. The bathrooms are well-maintained, although some reviewers noted a lack of warm water and soap. Challenges include difficult campsite reservations and occasional issues with nearby campers, but the overall experience is positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

Stayed at Cougar Rock campground for 2 nights. Camp site and bathrooms were clean and the reservation set up went smoothly. Only complaint I have is our car battery would not start the last morning when we were set to leave. It was a rental so we did not have a jump box or jumper cables. You also have zero cell service inside of and for a few miles outside of the campsite so we could not call anyone for assistance. We asked the ranger for help and he said he could help with making a phone call but I was very surprised that they did not have a jump box inside of the ranger station. It was a fairly large building with electric service. I’m sure it is a fairly common issue with campers and I think it would be a great thing to have with the staff for anyone who has issues, especially since it is so remote. Hopefully the NPS adds it to their on-site equipment in the near future.

The campsites are spacious with trees and shrubbery between them. The parking spots and tent spots were level. The campsite was clean.

Quiet and nice campground. No frills, easy to find and while most spots were occupied didn’t feel as though people were on top of you.

If you have the time, it is worth it to walk over to the Nisqually River. You can experience crossing the river on a log bridge and there is a nice view of Mount Rainier. Another short hike you can access from the campground is the Wonderland trail next to the Nisqually River, which can get you to Longmire (1.7 miles one-way) where there is a store with souvenirs, snacks, and some basic essentials.

Wasn’t sure how I was supposed to get my 8’ teardrop and small suv into my assigned site, but after numerous attempts to get them in, my superior intellect and patience prevailed. I now appreciate National Park humor. The view was worth it.

Right next to the bathroom - i would pick a different site if you have options. There's no blow dryer to create noise but there is an automatic light that turns on and the sound of doors closing.
