What Guests Are Saying
Cougar Rock Campground offers spacious, clean sites with good privacy and easy access to Mount Rainier trails, making it an ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts. The bathrooms are well-maintained, although some reviewers noted a lack of warm water and soap. Challenges include difficult campsite reservations and occasional issues with nearby campers, but the overall experience is positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

We were lucky enough to get the last first come site on a Saturday. It was our first visit to the campground. It was clean with spacious well cared for spaces. The rangers and volunteers were very friendly and helpful. We will be back!

Campground was well latex out with convenient access to bathrooms and waste/recycling no matter your location. Quiet time was like someone flicked a switch - it was very quiet at night. There were few bothersome wildlife, save some chipmunks and begging jays. Sites varied, the first site was private and the second one my table and fire pit were 5’ from te road. Thankfully very little traffic.
1. A good jump off point for Paradise hikes and visiting the Nesquale riverbed. Recommend dipping your feet in the glacial melt. Firewood is small and insanely pricey, so I recommend buying
Nearby outside the park. Don’t try to get in the park on a Saturday morning - there will be a 45 minute bumper to bumper wait. Try Monday instead.

Site was reserved and ready for our arrival. Site was reasonably level and had adequate privacy. If you go to Paradise, and you should, go early like 0730-0800 early parking fills up really fast. Wonderful hikes start in Paradise.

A beautiful campground, well-located for access to some of the most popular hikes in the park.

Our site was close to the restrooms trash and water station and gave us an opportunity to do some night photography early in the morning and had the park to ourselves. Our site felt secluded even though we were close to others. Easy check in and easy to follow loops.

Campground is very pretty, but be prepared for very small spots and small parking areas. You really want to do your homework and check out sites online before choosing. Some sites even have the table / fire and tent pad on different levels.
Also be aware that each loop only has one bathroom and one water spicket (located at the bathroom). For us, this was a very long walk to retrieve water and bring it back to our site. You will definitely water to bring some sort of water collection jug that you can drive or roll back to your site.
You also need to plan ahead for firewood. It is not sold at the campground, but at the general store about two miles away. It would have been nice to know this before we arrived.
Finally, I booked my reservation exactly six months in advance and received multiple confirmation reminders before my reservation. However, about five hours before check in, I received an email that had a different site number. When I arrived at the campground, the rangers couldn't figure out why I had been removed from my original site. The one I was moved to was far smaller and couldn't accommodate four people. I was eventually able to get my original site back, but only after multiple conversations with the rangers.

Campsites were extremely well taken care of, the park rangers were extremely helpful and even gave alternative places to check out due to the high demand for this place.

Sites are very tight and best suited to smaller backpacking tents. It's still a very unique campground and very beautiful.

It's my ideal campground, quiet, deep in the forest. Short walk to the bathrooms. Lacking much sunlight, so dark (good for sleeping, but cold). No coverage for T-Mobile and no power hookup at sites.
