What Guests Are Saying
Lower Falls Campground features spacious, well-maintained campsites with ample shade and beautiful riverside views, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers. The breathtaking nearby waterfalls and numerous hiking trails enhance the camping experience, although the campground lacks adequate water stations and has issues with cleanliness in the bathrooms. Overall, visitors appreciate the serene environment, helpful camp hosts, and the opportunity to disconnect from technology in a picturesque setting.

The reservation process and explanation of sights is great. I could be noted that water is available by a hand pump for containers. The reservation process for parking at the middle or upper falls, after your campground reservation is difficult without any phone service to apply for them. More parking needs to be available for these specific locations.
The road getting to the campground from the West is poor with a dirt section for about 2 miles, with many dangerous humps in the paved sections. The road from the East is really poor.
On our specific weekend, the camp host was not there. There was an unruly group partying with music and yelling till 3am. I left in the middle of the night to contact the Sheriff after a confrontation with the shitbags. 10+ miles for cell service and no show from the Sheriff. Contacted park staff the next morning who were unable to boot out the offenders and didn't do anything about the disturbance that continued again the next night. I was able to contact the Sheriff finally during the day who spoke to the group but stated he didn't have the authority to boot the offenders either? I call BS on that one since there were multiple sites who complained. Overall the sight was in a great location, just poor supervision of offending campers who should have been booted on day 1. It shouldn't come to physical altercations before enforcement is done. Boondock locations need a camp host or a park ranger with the authority to remove shitbags ruining the weekend for everyone else.

We love the camping site, except the toilet. It smelled so bad, and no toilet papers. Besides that, every thing else is perfect. The camping site is beautiful with lots of trees. The Lower falls is so beautiful. We swim in the falls and hike to Upper falls. Lots of hiking trails. We love it. We will be back.

Everything was ver my nice except the group that was screaming until 1am. Luckily they were far away, but I feel bad for whoever was near their campsite because they woke me up a lot with their voices carrying. They sounded like they were having fun though! Lol

One of my favourite campsites - the falls walk is a must, and an easy drive to a lot of St Helens hikes too.
Can get quite busy but the tent sites are a good size.
If people learned to put the toilet seat down then the toilets would be ok too!!!

There is a trail to the park from the lower falls area. I felt the signage in the campsite was pretty poor. It was great to see the falls at sunset and in the morning when it was so peaceful.

The campground was very spacious and quiet, and absolutely stunning. Our site was 3 mins walking to the falls, which were gorgeous! Such a beautiful place! I wish there was day-parking that didn't require a reservation, since we had planned to stay in the area the next day also, but couldn't, because we couldn't leave the car anywhere.
Bathrooms were quite sinky...like very intense, and I am not very picky about vault bathrooms, that and the "reservation only" day-use were probably the only down sides, other than that, I highly recommend!

Quiet campsite, not too close to neighbors, was able to get 25' bumper pull into space without problems. Gorgeous river and falls. Great family experience. It was a rough road to get there, however. Not sure I would pull my trailer over that last section of road again.

We've been camping at Lower Falls for over 10 years now. This was easily one of our best visits yet. The new parking permit system has insured great access to all of the trails in the area and kept the crowds down in the campground as well. I know the reservation system isn't perfect and doesn't meet everyone's needs all of the time, but this area was under so much pressure from misuse by visitors that something really needed to be done.
Even with the new system in place, the areas that saw the most human traffic had the all too familiar wads of toilet paper, cans & bottles, and left behind bags of dog poop. Please clean up after yourselves, People. This is not your house. You're guests here.
On the positive side, we saw so much wildlife this visit and I believe it was in no small part due to the lack of human presence. Kudos to the USFS for acting to preserve one of SW Washington's greatest natural recreational resource areas. Future generations deserve to enjoy this space as much as we have.
