Beautiful location and large campsites that allowed for privacy. I can't wait to visit again.

The walk-in sites are along the creek and mostly quite shady. The toilets are pretty primitive. The road just entering and through camp is bad--lots of potholes. Really needs to be re-graded, and gravel or asphalt would be nice. But the campgrounds are very nice, and convenient to the town of Mammoth, which has a big grocery store (Von's) and lots of restaurants. Bear lockers, fire pits, picnic tables, and running potable water are provided. We saw several bears; it's really necessary to put all edibles and coolers in the lockers at night or whenever leaving camp.

We stay in Mammoth Lakes every year, but this was the first time at Sherwin Creek. It was a good experience and we liked the campground.

Sherwin Creek was a beautiful, relatively quiet campground. We also came across some of the friendliest campers staying there. There are lots of great hikes within walking distance or within a short drive and the creek running through the campground was a nice place to cool down after a few hot days.
Some things to keep in mind/be prepared for:
1. YOU WILL VERY LIKELY BE VISITED BY BEARS. We had at least 2 visits during our 3-night stay. One in daylight around 6p while we were making dinner. The bear came within 6 feet of us. He/she was, of course, interested in our food and was not at all bothered by us humans a first, but seemingly got annoyed by our loudness and casually walked away after about a minute. The second was at night near the bathrooms and was relatively uneventful.
2. The bathrooms are some of the smelliest pit toilets I have come across. I recommend having a mask and/or some bathroom spray to help mask the smell.
Overall, I do think that Sherwin Creek is a great place to stay in the Mammoth area, but you will need to be OK with sharing your campsite with wildlife/bears, and potentially even plan to take your burners/stoves and food elsewhere to cook dinner, as we did the rest of our stay. There are plenty of lakes to sit by while you eat!

Great campground with respectable T-Mobile cell service and ideally located close to town and recreatiin areas. Stayed the 3rd week of July 2023, my third stay at this campground. Bathrooms are always clean.

Nice campground, a little busy for 3 backpackers looking for a place to crash for 1 night. Looked great for families.
