What Guests Are Saying
Rabbit Valley offers a well-maintained campground with clean facilities and stunning views, particularly from Knowles Overlook. The large, spaced-out campsites provide a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for off-roading and outdoor activities. However, access can be challenging due to a rough road, and the lack of shade and amenities may not suit everyone.

Very large and plain sites. Not too much noise from the interstate. Good place for a night.

I've been visiting Rabbit Valley with my family for the past 20 years, primarily riding motorcycles.
We camped, self sustained, and always left our site cleaner than we found it.
We fully appreciated the trails that were developed there and always had a current HOV permit. It is unfortunate that, since Covid, so many people have found this place, and could not find it within themselves to respect it, and the BLM felt the need to "develop" the sites to accommodate them.
The Western demographic has changed, and so, charging/spending $28/night for a site seems like nothing to them.
Seems like a lot for a Native Coloradan who is already paying his/her tax dollars to keep things accessible and "free".
What is now happening in Rabbit Valley and other BLM sites is "double taxation".
All that is needed now is a toilets (since the new folks don't care about fouling their own nests)!
No need for fences, graded roads, nor a concrete table or perfectly level tent spot. It was all good before.
PLEASE, in the future, just install toilets, and let our taxes pay for that. Leave the rest bumpy, dirty, and wild!
Thank you,
Bradley

Been a couple years since my last visit. Things have changed. Was free. Things change, and Rabbit Valley will be properly maintained now. Love the pit toilet, fire rings and picnic tables.

The way the North sites are configured with cable fencing, it restricts access to the entire camping site & in particular it makes access to the fire rings & tables much more difficult for RV campers.

Great camping, quiet, clean, fairly level for our truck camper and not far off the highway! Great views.

Stayed in the Knowles campground. We had amazing views and a great time!!! Tent pad was big enough for two small tents. Small trees provided some natural shade. The camp toilet was clean, but a bit far from our spot. However there were times we shared it with some local spiders (all to be expected while camping). The drive in was fine, just take it slow on some of those dips. We had a Subaru Ascent and a Toyota RAV 4. Watch your hitch though if it hangs low as there are some dips that could scrape if you’re driving too fast.
We hiked the McDonald canyon, but could not find a trail to access this hike from our camp spot, just driving the 5 minutes to the trail head. We did hike all the way to the water, but river access is not for the faint of heart or a large group. I would NOT take anyone who wasn’t River/water savy as currents could be dangerous.
All in all we had a great time and we would come back again!!

we first came upon rabbit Valley understanding that it was a dispersed area. After getting there and knowing that it had been taken over and maintained by.gov we were skeptical. We only stayed one night, but we're very impressed with the overhaul that had been done and the sites that have been put in and how level they were. They are very spacious as well as of space between for privacy. Next time we are in the area of Rabbit Valley we will make it our number one stop for Boondocking.
