Overall a nice experience at Black Canyon. But, in the campground, if you have a big rig you will have trouble. Check the site sizes carefully when you book. We arrived during rain and the campsite was a muddy mess. We could not level the trailer as it just sank in the mud. The sites are dirt without gravel or pavement. If the sites had gravel or road base that would help in a situation like we ran into. Sites are small and very close together. Campers around us were courteous and quiet but we could hear larger groups with kids in the other loops. Not a bad experience but not the greatest either. It seems to be that the national parks were made for smaller cars and smaller rigs when they were built. The scenic drive was pleasant but missed about half of the pullout views because of lack of parking. Try in the shoulder seasons when kids are in school.

Variety of hiking options for different abilities. We were able to hike to and from visitor center from campground.
Accessible viewpoints on driving tour were wonderful views. Hard working rangers were very helpful with questions.

Adequate for a short stay but not much more. Grass is beginning to overgrow sites as maintenance is lacking. Sites are cramped and the gravel that used to be in the driveways is long gone so now it's mud after rain. The canyon was great to visit but no reason to ever go back to the campground.

First , the park itself is definitely worth spending time at and was visually stunning. The South Rim drive has some extraordinary stops . Don’t miss the East portal drive , takes you to the canyon floor . Bring your lunch.
Secondly, the campground itself is pretty disappointing to be honest. We love National Parks and understand there are some places that you just can’t get every facility. But the planning here is poor. Where you turn off the main road to go to the campsites ,is in the middle of a blind curve so be careful pulling out on to the main road. Some of the sites sit right next to the road in the campground, our steps on our camper where actually on the road itself and could not open the canopy either because it would have been actually out in the driveway. This place was set up for tent camping probably in the sixties but they sell the sites for RVs and many are not compatible. There is no water at the sites but there is one place to refill containers. Why they can’t install a well or have storage tanks is perplexing. There is also no dumping station in the park so be aware of that as well. The electric is newly renovated and that is excellent. The NPS really needs to step up their game on the camping aspect of this park and it would be a top ten place to visit.

Site is too small for a 30' trailer, I was able to make it work but almost destroyed my trailer with tree branches. Sites are also too close together.
