What Guests Are Saying
Petersburg Campground features friendly staff and well-maintained, clean facilities, making it a pleasant place to stay. Many campers appreciate the spacious, diverse sites and beautiful views, despite ongoing recovery from Hurricane Helene, which has affected some amenities and scenery. While there are some drawbacks, such as restroom accessibility and low lake water levels, the overall experience remains positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

Beautiful area with spectacular views of the lake. The camp sites are all well laid out and spaced. Facilities are clean. Very easy to get around the campground. They do not sell firewood, so bring your own per their regulations. Or else they allow you to "harvest" fallen wood.

The spots were spaced really well, the views were absolutely amazing, private and peaceful, clean bathrooms, and local places to grab needed supplies weren't far. Overall, we loved the trip and will definitely be back!

When we arrived (Monday), there was a crew working on the fire hydrant next to the gate house. The employee in the gate house gave us our park pass and told us that power was off in a section of the park but that our site was okay. She said that the water was off to the entire park and the men were working on a busted coupling at the hydrant. When I asked how long it would be until we had water, she got really defensive and said, "It's no big deal. They'll have it back on in an hour." in a very rude tone. We went ahead and set up at our site and about an hour later, the water was on but the pressure was really low. Later in the night, our water filter clogged with trash from the water line and I had to change it out. The pressure never came back fully and two days later (Wednesday morning), the same crew cut off the water again without notice. We noticed on Tuesday that there was a paper sign on the gate house saying the gate house was closed Tuesday and Wednesday. The crew should have contacted someone before cutting off the water but nobody notified us of the outage. We, along with several others, packed up and left the park because we couldn't make lunch, take showers, or use our toilets. The lake is nice but we, and nobody around us, got even a nibble from a fish. The lake must have too many turtles and alligators to be good for fishing. The entrances and exits to sites 33 (our space) and 34 have very steep grades with a 4" gap between the pavement and dirt. Everything in our trailer was shaken when we came in and we barely got out. We damaged our left rear tire and new wheel bearing just trying to get up onto the pavement to leave. The attitude of the gate house employee on 4/20/23, the lack of care for the campsites, and the fact that we weren't notified of a planned water outage so we could fill our fresh water tank will keep us from EVER coming back to this campground. We'll stick with State Parks.

This was our first stay at an Army Corps of Engineers Campground. Hopefully it would be our last. Water and electric as promised. Easy dump station. Campsite spread apart nicely . Great hosts. Who could ask for more.

Sites are spacious. Many on lake. Access to Bartram Trail for hiking or mountain biking is a real asset. Bathrooms are old and ingested, but water is hot and pressure good.

Site was great, easy to get into, pretty much level, and great views. 2nd time we’ve stayed here this month, it will be a regular stop when we travel between FL and NC going forward.
