What Guests Are Saying
Petersburg Campground is a beautiful and well-maintained site with spacious, clean campsites and friendly staff, making it a peaceful place to enjoy nature. Many visitors appreciate the gorgeous scenery, access to the lake, and the opportunity to see wildlife like armadillos and woodpeckers. Although there are some lingering effects from Hurricane Helene, including tree damage and a need for improvements in certain facilities, overall feedback suggests a positive camping experience.

Petersburg is a lovely campground with beautiful, lake-front sites. Avoid the higher campsite numbers (75+), especially #89. The lower site numbers, however, are most pleasant. The camp hosts were friendly and helpful; the bathrooms were clean and the campsites were immaculately maintained. We will definitely return to Petersburg.

I have traveled all around the US and some of Canada and this is still one of my favorite parks to camp, unwind, and enjoy nature. You have campsites right on the shore of Clarks Hill Lake (aka Lake Thurmond) with great views. It is located within minutes of Evans Augusta GA area.
Always clean and with a 30+ mountain bike trail that runs next to the campground. Great fishing and boating also.

We look forward to each visit at Petersburg. Friendly staff, well kept sites, water views on all but a handful of sites, pull through sites abound. There are site for everyone, from very private to more social and open. Large and small, up high and beach access. Great single track mountain bike / hiking trail runs right through the park. Not much in walking or biking distance but everything you would need is within 10-15 miles. AT&T data is marginal but doable, Verizon cell service is fine but data is non-existent.

Great experience from the start meeting Eddie at the gate.

Nice campground with beautiful large campsites. I didn’t mean to reserve a handicap site, (site 17) but it was fine. The only thing about it I didn’t like was that the fire ring was very high. Still with a beautiful view and lots of privacy. No cell service but could connect at the bath house for game updates. Looking forward to going back and staying in other sites.
