The location is exceptional, although campsites 16 - 20 are even better if you're willing to carry your belongings from your car to the tent site.
Really nice and friendly personnel (native women from the island). One morning, my car had died and the ranger had a pair of jumper cables I could borrow and a local visitor helped me jump start my vehicle. Really helpful and easygoing folks there.
The visitor center has a nice variety of locally sourced snacks (chocolate covered coffee beans, macadamia nuts. beef jerky, etc.) and postcards for purchase besides the usual visitor center offerings. I also liked their emphasis on educating the public about the complex history of the park, its prior use and the development of the local flora and fauna and how things changed over time during the Polynesian arrivals, the British and other later invasive species being introduced.
I also appreciate their effort to establish more native trees on the campground and in the park. Campsites 12 - 15 had new trees planted in between, which in the future will provide more shade and noise dampening.

I would definitely recommend doing the Pipiwai trail. It is spectacular! One of the most amazing trails I've ever hiked. Start early when it's cooler and there are less people. The great thing about Kipahulu is that there are no roosters to wake you up at all hours of the night.

Beautiful, spacious campground. The area is beautiful, especially the coadtline next to the campsite. The eco toilets are clean. And all that for just $ 8!

Loved the campground! One of the best I have been too. Spoty cell service (Verizon) but better then the rest of the Hana highway. Beautiful nature and campground.

Our walk in site was beautiful. We arrived very late and there was an easy late check-in system to follow.
