Such a beautiful space. We really enjoyed it. Only thing to notice is, that there is no running water or drink water.

Got lucky and booked the last spot during my Maui visit. This is a perfect ending to close out the Road to Hana trip. By the time you reach Hana, you’re most likely exhausted and the next thing to really visit is the Venus Pool. It is an awesome sight to see and then off to Kipahulu campground. Arrived at around 5pm and had about an hour to set up camp. No electricity or running water, unlike Camp Olowalu, but for what it’s worth at $8/night, you can’t beat the location and views. The bathrooms were very clean and well ventilated. Not once did it smell like you’re stepping into a porta-potty at a carnival where the highlight food was chili cheese fries. This place was a solid concrete structure and not one smell. Very clean and plenty of toilet paper. Very wide spacious footprint for each tent site. Comes with a picnic table and fixed grill. Was able to fit a Jeep and two 2p tents side by side with the grill and picnic table. The views were amazing. Highly recommend staying here, especially if you plan to go to the Pipiwai Trail. Only a few minutes down the road to the parking lot and visitor center. Trailhead starts off the path by the visitor center. Felt so good to wake up and get on the trail bright and early before other people get there. Made the hike that much more enjoyable.

I originally booked walk-in site 19 for three nights. Due to a schedule change, I needed to cancel the first night, which was no problem. This has got to be one of my favorite campsites of all time! Ocean view and the sound of crashing waves all night long. Each morning I ran along the highway towards Kaupo, and drove into Hana for a late lunch at the food trucks and the Huli Huli Chicken near Koki Beach Park. I had oddly strong 5G cell service right next to the ocean and was able to get some work done in my tent during the brief passing rainstorms during the day.

Pack for most anything but snow. Bring a shower kit! Hana is just 20 minutes away or so and it has everything you need anyway. Hike direct from your site.

Gorgeous sunrise views over the pacific with the big island as the backdrop! We found the road to get there even more nerve racking than the road to Hana but once we were there we were thrilled with this part of Haleakalā National Park. The hikes were gorgeous and the rangers were so helpful. We learned a ton at the visitor center also!
