What Guests Are Saying
Gallo Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained camping experience in Chaco Canyon, with stunning views, amazing night skies, and friendly campground hosts who provide valuable information and assistance. The campground is clean and organized, featuring level sites and access to hiking trails and ancient ruins. However, visitors should be aware of the rough access roads, limited privacy between campsites, and occasional issues with water and restroom facilities.

The campground was nicely set up for some things, but for privacy and quiet it was a bit less great. We wanted to get to sleep early because the next day would be long, but people in the nearby space were loud long after dark, during the night, and in the morning. Not sure how that could be solved. Also, the timer on the bathroom light could be set a little longer. If you are not finished in the stall and the light goes out, it is very dark - bring a headlamp.

Although the road in is pretty bumpy, the campground was good. Recycling and water available. Amazing place to visit.

Considering the remote location, the campground was a pleasant surprise. It had a modern restroom with running water, flush toilets & a kitchen sink. There was a dump station with a fresh water spigot. There were dumpsters & recycling dumpsters. The sites & camp road could use some maintenance.

Gallo campground was great!! Getting there on the access road to the park and campground was horrible. It was the worst road I have ever driven in my motor home.

If you are interested in Southwestern archeology and high desert landscape, this amazing, unique World Heritage Site with many incredible 1000 year old Native American multi-room structures in and above a remote canyon, plus lot of pictographs along canyon walls is a "must see" for you! One day would not be enough time for all there is to see - two days and three nights would be good - even longer would be better if you have the time and interest. Summer can be hot; late Spring and early Fall are better weather.
Be prepared for miles of rough gravel road and essentially no services or supplies anywhere other than a nice bathroom at the campground. Plan to be completely self-contained. Take the time and prepare to hike the backcountry trails to: Pueblo Alto and the Jackson Stairway and canyon overlooks; the Peñasco Blanco, pictographs, and the Super-Nova site trail; and the south loop trail to Tsin Kletsin; as well as the shorter trails from the campground itself.

Rangers ands volunteers at Visitor Center were great, so helpful and informative. Couldn't find the Camp Host when there was a problem.
