What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

Pretty positive I did not reserve the site I was assigned. Sat on the office phone for 20min just after 5o clock, trying to get ahold of someone to check n see if it was ok to move. There were 5 sites occupied in the park and 3 of em were all next to each other. Thought that was pretty lame not to spread people out when the place was empty. We left. Ate the fee, and went back to Nantahala NF to camp dispersed.

Lovely visit in late November. Smokemont Campground can’t control the weather, but it was very cold!! Excited to return in warmer temperatures

The rangers on duty at the campsite were exceptionally helpful, answering my questions about the campsite and potential hiking trails.

I preferred the campsite setup of the Cosby campground, plus the bathrooms were cleaner there, but Smokemount was still overall fine. It was close to a lot of major trailheahs, a visitor center, and a gas station for firewood. It felt very safe

Beautiful campground, super convenient to downtown Cherokee, and polite and helpful rangers! I arrived in the middle of the night- was able to easily enter and find my spot to camp.

The campground was great! It was beautiful and peaceful. The best thing (for me) was that there were trails leading from the campground, so we could just head out. The Smokemont Loop (6 mi) was gorgeous and the perfect amount of climb, enough to feel it but not destroy you!

Smokemont is close to Cherokee (about 5 miles). It is on a beautiful creek and there is trailhead access. Nice bathrooms and informative staff.
