What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

Very awesome time with my group!
There is no internet, but I h is what we look for when we want to spend time with close friends and family.
There is a rangers office and staff in case of emergencies (very nice people).
The only thing is, that you have to get your wood before they close (which I think it should be open longer, or have a form of paying with an app (because I didn’t have cash) to drop on the “after hours box”.
Other than that, WE WILL be coming back to this camp!
A lot of green and wild life to enjoy. If need to, you can go down to town and take a walk, eat, etc…
A lot of water tubing, fishing areas..
Overall, if you like the “outdoors” and family time…. THIS IS one of the best places to camp around…

Easy to get in and out, campsite was perfect for what we needed and bathroom facilities were adequate (hand soap would have been nice, but no big deal). Great experience overall! Was perfect for our scout troop arriving late Friday night ahead of a backpacking hike up Alum Cave Trail to Mt LeConte backcountry shelter on Saturday.

Did not have the ticket on our campsite as reserved although it was reserved thru recreation.gov. Hard to see campsite because of the leaves covering it. Leaves should be blown off especially if the site is reserved. Had to check in the next day because office was closed when we arrived. Campsite is beautiful and was not busy this time of the year. Saw lots of elk and no bears. Got to ride on the Blue Ridge to Maggie Valley. This part opened while we were visiting. The park was beautiful as always! Visited Cades Cove and Roaring Fork.

Very nice campground. Employees were very helpful and most courteous. Facilities were clean and up to date.
Did have a issue with a group camping next to us with not observing the quiet hours but issue was resolved when they were confronted.

Very large campground, but it's spread out and forested enough that it was still quiet on Halloween weekend, in peak season.
Perhaps we were lucky, but the large fields nearby also seemed to be favorites of the elk, because we saw several small groups of them in the short time we were there.
