What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

Campground is very good condition, restrooms clean and campsite was very nice. Only problem we had was it was dangerous to take walks because of groups of 4 -6 kids who were racing on bikes and scooters without regard for pedestrians. Rangers should have put a stop to this but it went on for 3-4 days.

Campground was clean and well maintained. Do not expect any privacy in campsites though. I stayed at B-009, the sites are so close to one another that you can hear everything. No easement between other sites. People walking thru site to rest rooms and cars driving thru loop constantly. I would recommend sites Loop A 5-7, they have somewhat larger easement and back up to the woods. Hiking trails are not good. Do not hike the Bradley Fork Trail, it's a gravel road used by horses and full of manure. I hiked to the Smokemont Loop Trail cutoff to discover it is not maintained. The Smokemont Nature Trail located near the river is a an easy trail. Campground is in a great location, close to Cherokee and Newfound Gap. Arrive at destinations before 8:30, there's only one road.

Always love staying at the Smokemont Campground. The grounds are well kept and the sites are very nice. Plus, you never know when an elk might come visit.

This is a beautiful campground and one of my favorites. The river is great to cool off in and lots of trails to hike around.

Arrived in evening to find myself across from a Trump gathering (flags posted). Went immediately to bed as I had worked on a trail for Trail’s Day. Was awakened at 0500 by the high beam LED assortment of headlights from the same campers across the way who left them on until they left 20 minutes later. If campers are this obtuse minded then the park needs to post parking lights only or “be courteous to those campers who are sleeping when leaving early”. Otherwise the Campground is clean. Nice location.
