What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

The campsite we had reserved was a non-generator site. The ranger said we could change to a generator-allowed site in section F, which we did. We were pleased.
When we arrived at the entrance to Smokemont there were six or seven elk grazing on the roadside grass. Seeing them was a plus.

We camp at Smokemont as often as possible as we now live only 2 hours away in the high country. We've camped here and all the other front country campgrounds for 40 years. After traveling out west no place holds a cancel to the Smokies. We always end out westward trips here to relax and chill.

We spent one night at Smokemont Campground after 2 nights at Cade's Cove and one night at Elkmont. Overall the campground was great. The bathrooms here were clean, had some good air circulation and actually smelled good, overall the best of the 3 campgrounds we stayed at, although all of the bathrooms were actually pretty well maintained/cleaned. The river was beautiful and we did a little fishing with the kids which was fun. One of the highlights for us was a terrific 1hr horseback ride at the Smokemont Stables which was so much fun. We did a short walk/hike in the morning after packing up our site and before leaving the park, but wished we had more time to explore the trails nearby. Could easily spend more time here on another trip.

Nice except I was too close to the bathroom and you had to go outside the park for a shower. The fishing was not impressive and you should have more places where you can observe the fireflies during their synchronocity.

Facilities are quite aged, it’s a shame some of the funding from the most visited National Park in the US doesn’t stay to help update the campgrounds a bit. Beautiful Park and campground though!

way too many dogs.barking morning noon and night. some campers have as many as 3 or 4 dogs. lots of times they don't follow rules or keep on leash. people who have camped at smokemont for many years are begining to complain how it has changed, Too many dogs!!! campers leaving trash and food in fire pits. Campers in F loop with RVs too long for the site which leads them to park either on the grass or in the road. the recreation.gov site planely ask the length of your unit, this is not being enforced. Also F secection should be for motor homes only .Fifth wheels and tag alongs should be in D loop because of their and tow vehicle. they are the ones parking on the grass and in the road. this year their have been several tents in all areas and plainly says no tents on the entrance post, when they should be in the B loop. Please bring back the peace and serenity to smokemont. Hope someone that care reads this.feel free to respond.
