What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

The experience about the campground was excellent. However compared with other NPS campgrounds it felt like every other site was closer than usual.

Beautiful park but the majority of the facilities are in major need of updates and repairs. I am sure it is because of funding so I won't get political.. I did not see anyone in the office the entire time.

The sites are large with enough trees for shade. I really enjoyed visiting the restored chapel near the entrance of the campground.

Lovely campground! The creek running through was so pleasant, and the flush toilets and water are nice to have. It’s a quick drive out to Cherokee to get some service, and the herds of elk nearby are neat.

Clean, spacious sites. Water tank filling station is with the RV “Dump” station.

My only complaint is the surface of the square platform for pitching the tent is too hard for normal tent stakes. I have lightweight gear for backpacking, which I also use for car camping. A hammer would have been necessary to sink the stakes, but such heavy blows would likely have damaged or destroyed my stakes. Fortunately I also had my hammock, and my site had trees suitable for hanging.
The itinerary for my trip needed to be flexible, and I was happy to reserve a spot online the same day after talking to the staff at Sugarlands. When I made the reservation I didn't notice any info on required heavy duty tent stakes, but that info is important for people like me with lightweight gear.
