What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

Very quiet campground. Although full the noise was minimal and drowned out by the sound of the nearby creek. Not much privacy and many sites are very close to each other. Bathrooms were clean with flush toilets and sinks, but surprisingly no soap or hand sanitizer.

Great campground and always a favorite. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Only reason for 4 stars is that there is no hand soap in the restrooms. That should be mandatory!

We had the very first site after the ranger station, which meant there was a lot of traffic going past us. The site we had wasn't the quietest but it was still a nice space. Cars travelling on the road were going uncomfortably fast for how many children were around. Lights at the ranger station kept coming on all night. I suggest not having a spot near the front of the campground! Campsite was flat and easily accessible. Campground is close to the Oconaluftee Visitor Center, which frequently has elk herds near.

Smokemont is a sprawling campground in the heart of the Smokey Mountains National Park. I spent only two nights there after an extended stay at Cosby Campground and a final snooze at Cades Cove, but my experience was terrific. This is a large site, but there was plenty of beauty and warmth to be seen and had at this spot. I had great early morning chats with folks – it's surprising how much conversation can be generated from a license plate! – and the staff we just great. I was able to spend some time chatting with rangers about life and work at camp, as well as chatting up some of the best trails and locations for some photography I was in the mountains for. All-in-all, I would gladly stay at this campground again. It has amazing access to tons of sights and trails, as well as quick access to Cherokee if you need a run to town!
