What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

Nice quiet campground, elk all around the area. No hookups and our site was very shaded, so our solar panels didn’t help too much.

Great campsite. The creek was so beautiful and the sounds of it flowing all night was perfect.
The campground is clean and has bathrooms all over the place. Firewood available on the honor system which was super helpful. Overall just an absolutely great campground.

Had a great time camping here. Saw lots of Elk near the campground and the horseback riding at the stables was fun. Bathroom was clean and the campground was quiet and enjoyable the whole time. Close to Cherokee in case anything is needed or just want to go grab lunch.

We just stopped in for one night, but I could have stayed at Smokemont all week. Very peaceful campground, plenty of flush toilets, and fun trails to explore. Camping next to the river was the highlight of the trip. Listening to the flow of water all night was just pure bliss.

I spent 2 nights in my small motorhome. The site was level and private.

The campground was beautiful but not well maintained by people who care. One restroom had a hand dryer out. The other had a flush valve on a fixture that would not work. Between that and the parking fees, the tax payer is being ripped off by an out if control National Park Service that has forgotten to whom the really should feel like they report to. I recently saw a group of 3 park employees working to remove a small tree from the roadside. I could have cut it down, sawed it up and hauled it off in an hour. They were still there messing around hours later. Shameful.

Difficult to find a solar-friendly site here, but the campground and facilities were well kept. No cellular service, but a short drive into Cherokee will get you at least 3 bars of 5G (AT&T).

We loved our site. Close to the stream and right next to the log walking bridge. Loved hearing the sound of the stream especially at night. Staff was friendly. Riding stables on the same road. Really enjoyed our 1 hour guided horse ride.
