What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

We love camping at Smokemont in Cherokee. Always friendly and helpful staff. Clean and well maintained sites. We always meet some really nice families each year.

We stayed in site B36. It is right next to the bathhouse and across from the river. Love staying at Smokemont!

Wonderful, wonderland of a campground, but I might be biased since I used to come here every other year with my Dad when I was in high school and college. Smokemont also seems more peaceful and crowded than Cades Cove or Elkmont.

Nice clean campground with great campsites. Very quiet during the weekdays, but a bit busier on the weekends in early September.

This is a safe, family-friendly campground with the cleanest bathrooms you’ll find in the Smokies. The sites are set close together for the most part, so if you want privacy and solitude, this is not the ideal campground for you. (Hike into a backcountry campsite for that.) While you will hear and see some revelry into the night, groups are respectful and tend to quiet down at a reasonable hour. This is a family-oriented campground, with kids zooming around on bikes and scooters, and parents mingling. It’s a well-run, safe campground, with easy hiking opportunities available via the trails at the north end of camp. My daughter and I had a great time rock hopping up the creek. We’ll be back, for sure. With bikes.

The sound of the creek running over rocks was so soothing. The large trees provided wonderful shade. The campground was relatively quiet. Bathrooms were cleaned regularly. It was very relaxing!

Great staff. Clean restrooms.Great value but go with the knowledge that there are no showers. no electric, no water hookups. There is a dump station, potable water and the sound of the creek to sleep. Happy trails!
