Chisos Basin Campground offers a beautiful, well-maintained setting with clean bathrooms and friendly hosts, making it a great choice for campers. The campground provides excellent access to popular hiking trails, stunning views, and cooler temperatures compared to other areas in Big Bend. Chisos Campground is a great location right in the basin surrounded by mountains. Trails, nearby vistor center/store and some cell service are added bonuses.

We have tent camped in the Chisos Basin three times. Each time has been an amazing experience. The folks at the visitor center are very helpful, and the park hosts are incredible. Honestly the best advice I can give is that any sign or instruction from the website or park host is LEGIT. When they tell you to take more water than you think you need, do it. If a sign on a trails shows bears, be prepared that you may see a bear and memorize the tips on what to do if you see one up close (we have seen 6 bears in our time there). This is the coolest place in Texas -- definitely recommend going.

The campsite is absolutely gorgeous, we saw Mexican Jays, Deer, Roadrunners and Stick Bugs before even hitting any trails! It's also spacious and well-serviced.
I also wanted to give a shout-out to the volunteers on duty at the site, they were extremely kind and helpful.

Chisos Basin Campground is an amazing campground to use as a base to discover the mountains of Big Bend NP. There are food lockers at each campsite which is very handy so we don't have to keep toting food back and forth. Campsite 7 was good if you like to be close to the bathroom and the dishwashing station (we liked it). The view is a bit "blocked" by the other campsites meaning you don't have an insta type of photos as your photos will always have cars or structures in it. However you will still have an amazing view. Site 7 also has a picnic structure so that really helps with shade, but can also block the stargazing a bit. There was also the camp hosts and they were very helpful. I think her name was Kim (sorry, I forgot!). Overall a great site and a great campground and the experience was just amazing.

Campsite was very clean when we arrived. Very roomy as we had two tents to set up.
Bathrooms were clean and warm. Nice to have a warm bathroom when it gets down to the 30's overnite.
Camp hosts were nice and friendly. Neighboring campsites were not too disruptive or noisy.

the campsite was not good.. you had to click some stairs and it wasn't all rocky ground so you couldn't put the regular camp stakes.. the day before was real windy so if you didn't bring any spare you wouldn't have been able to set up your tent. hope you have a better experience but i recommend setting camp closer to the other camp sites

I have stayed at this campground for several years, and unfortunately this was by far the most disappointing experience. The attention to detail and overall care for the grounds has noticeably declined. Unlike previous years, there were no park rangers patrolling the campsites, and no one verifying whether people were actually checked into the spots they were supposed to be using. This created an environment that felt disorganized and poorly supervised.
Overall, it genuinely felt like the campground has stopped caring about the guest experience. After years of reliable, enjoyable visits, this year was a major letdown, and I sincerely hope management takes this feedback seriously and restores the quality and oversight that used to make this place great.

This campground is such a beautiful place to stay! Our family of 5 enjoyed our site right in the heart of the Chisos mountains! Very glad we got to camp here. This site (#50) was pretty small. Our 8 person tent barely fit, but we made it work. We stayed 4 nights in November and the first night it rained all night!! Vibrant, Mexican jay’s out each morning were so beautiful! We brought charcoal for the grill, so we could roast marshmallows for s’mores each night. I enjoyed being close to the restroom which has a separate dishwashing station that is very convenient. Very short drive to the Visitor center and camp store to get ice, souvenirs, info from park rangers. Also just a couple minutes of driving to get to the Lost Mine Trail which is very nice! Get there before 8:30am to get a parking spot! The park hosts were friendly and very helpful! I definitely want to come back to this campground and stay another time!!
