What Guests Are Saying
Gore Creek Campground is praised for its beautiful setting near the creek, providing a peaceful and private atmosphere with well-maintained facilities, including exceptionally clean bathrooms. Many guests appreciate the convenient access to Vail and nearby hiking and biking trails. However, some reviewers noted issues with noise from I-70 and the lack of water and campfires, alongside occasional challenges with campground management and site reservations. Overall, it remains a popular choice for campers seeking a serene experience close to outdoor activities.

We got site #13 just near the river, and it was amazing. The camp is close to Vail + has 2 beautiful trails at walk-in distance. 2 days were not enough!

Great little campground near Vail. Each of the sites has quite a lot of room which is wonderful for spreading out and feeling like you are all alone. You can hear HWY70 occasionally, however, it was not a big deal. Camp manager was terrific. Overall, a great experience.

This campground has great privacy and proximity to Vail. The sites have plenty of space and trees between one another.
Site 4 was not ideal as the sun rose on the side of my camper's main door (passenger side) and was quite blinding without an awning. It rained a bit overnight and the sun does not hit the ground/dirt until late morning due to the slope of the ground and the many trees/leaves providing shade. Breakfast was cooked walking on sticky dirt, and the flies were challenging to work with.
The proximity to Vail is amazing. Great location if you're intention is to visit Vail or the hikes nearby. If you're a family wanting to thrown a frisbee or football around this is not a great spot for that type of activity. Not a lot of open areas.

I do love this campground - we come two or three times a season since we discovered it - both as a destination and as a stopover because of the proximity to I-70. Most of the sites are fairly private, the vegetation is lush, and the creek sound is nice white noise accompaniment if you're near it. It will completely mask any noise, but even in the low numbered sites the freeway noise is very distant and background. It isn't a campground for very large RVs (like most older FS campgrounds), but I think is perfection for tents or smaller RVs. We have had adequate solar for charging in all of the sites we've camped in, but it isn't full day sun and a few of the sites might have very little. In return it is perfect for escaping summer heat - no AC needed.
It is a 12 minute walk to the Vail free bus at the Bighorn/Main stop, which can take you to the village for shopping and dining - very nice since Vail started charging for the parking garage during the summer The bus also stops at several trailheads. But excellent hiking trails start right from the campground (Deluge Lake, Gore Lake, Red Buffalo Pass, even Red Peak) and it is directly on the bike path from Avon/Vail to Copper/Frisco/Summit County so you have a lot of options where you don't need to take your car. No RV water fill-up or dump station, so do both (Frisco or Edwards are closest) if you need to before you get here. Good cell service on Verizon. Rates are FS standard but if course with that juicy pass discount just $12.50 + rec.gov fee. One warning: there are real critters around here (a fox ran through our campsite at dusk), so take the FS (screwed to the picnic table) warnings seriously and use the bear lockers. We'll be back.

Just passing through. Clean, quiet campground. Nice hiking in the area. Hope to get back someday.

A small campsite that is very convenient to the Vail area. Surprisingly quiet even though it's just a little ways away from I-70. Host was extremely friendly and helpful.

The site was beautiful, quiet and serene with all space and resources available. The campground was better than we had expected and we plan to get back to the site on a future journey.

Site 20 was about 50 yards from the parking area. Beautiful campground that seemed to have good upkeep. You can hear a small amount of background noise from I-70 at the site, but it's not bad in my opinion.

Beautiful spot! Others have reported road noise but we didn't have any issues. Bathrooms were really clean with great quality TP, huge plus!
